My first Medium article… It is scary

But I am publishing it anyway

This is not supposed to be my first article in Medium. There are still five incomplete drafts, all vying to be my first published article. You may ask why did I create one article after another, instead of focusing on one and publishing it. Well, this could be my way of procrastinating on publishing an article here.

Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind.

For someone with very little experience in blogging or even writing, it is pretty scary to click on the publish button. We are often told in life that first impressions are crucial. I probably imagine that with a click of the publish button, all users of this platform will be notified. This article will then swarmed by negative responses and I will be labelled as a bad writer forever if I don’t publish a well-written article.

Our fears can easily hold us hostage in life if we allow it to. Sometimes, we need to look at our fears in the eye and re-examine its validity before succumbing to it. The truth is that this article is not going to get much viewership, if any. The low viewership is actually a good thing, giving me the time to hone my writing skills without getting overwhelmed with feedbacks. Any response (positive/negative) is also good because it means that the reader is willing to spend a few extra moments to pen their thoughts for me. This definitely going to help me improve my writing. Thus, I should not be too bothered by the possibilty of getting negative responses.

The biggest risk is not taking any risk …

With this renewed positive mindset, I am going to publish my first short Medium article now (before any negativity takes over again and stop me again from publishing). I believe it will only get easier as I continue to write and publish them. With article №1 out of the way, time to work my way to publishing my first 10, my first 100 and so on.

I am not sure how did you manage to arrive at this article but I am glad you did. Thank you for your time here and I hope I did not waste too much of your time. Please look forward to better articles from me in future. 😄

See you again soon!
