My First Launch on Gumroad

This is what I learned.

The reality of making money while I sleep is not that far-fetched. I’ve heard people say they are making money while they sleep but could not fully understand this until I tried.

It’s one thing to hear something and another thing to put it into practice.

Are you making money while you sleep? Do you want to?

If so, creating a product, whether digital or physical, will get you there.

I grew up in the brick-and-mortar era. That’s right. If the sign on the door didn’t read “OPEN”, then they weren’t open. Point. Simple. Period.

It never occurred to me that a business could make money while I was sleeping.

Bringing you to today, I’ve been soaking up a lot of information. Learning about this passive income concept. The first time I heard the term, I asked, how can income be passive?

It is income received from a product or project put online which is available for sale 24/7.

You create something and then sell it online without having to do any extra work.

Examples include e-books, music, videos, software, and physical goods.

Gumroad is an e-commerce self-publishing online platform.

Launching on Gumroad was new to me. I had to learn about the platform to get my product online. I had to carve out time to learn how the features and functionality worked.

Everything takes time. Many times, people are not aware of the work involved when products are created.

Once you conceive your idea, you have to work to bring it from concept to creation. That’s no small feat.

Next, you have to find a platform to sell your product. Learn that platform. Understand the settings and the functionality required to get the product online.

This is what I did on Gumroad.

I wasn’t expecting a lot of time consumption. I didn’t know the setup requirements, but I downloaded a free guide from the internet.

With the instructions in hand, I thought I would take advantage of the time. I prepared myself by making notes in a Word document.

This way, when I finished, all I had to do was populate the fields in Gumroad with the information.

That wasn’t exactly the case. The free guide didn’t have all the details. The order of the fields and functionality had to be updated also.

After some extra time and effort, I went live with my Gumroad store.

I launched on Gumroad to find answers to the following information:

• Can I do it?
• Does it work?
• How does it work?
• Will I have an audience?
• What are the challenges?
• How will my audience respond?

I am happy to say:

I did it. It does work. I know how it works now because I took the time to learn. There are challenges, but I can overcome them. There is an audience, and they are responding.

In Summary

Passive income gives you freedom because your system of selling products is automated. You can do this by taking your idea from concept to product creation. Then put it on a platform that allows you to set up automated selling. Gumroad is one of these platforms that I tried and am continuing to use.

This is just the beginning. I am excited about getting all the ideas in my head out on paper and on the screen.
