My First Dollar On Medium
Moment of 2023—sweet.pub writing contest

Three months back, I bid farewell to my job.
Why?
My wife, my beacon of courage, propelled me toward my dream.
As a teacher, our evenings were simple — we both arrived home at 6 p.m., shared dinner, and collapsed into each other’s arms.
A routine meant to be short and sweet but not everlasting.
I’m not the type to wait for the perfect moment to have kids. Rain or shine, we’ll try, believing that if you have air in your lungs, you should explore every avenue.
Working round the clock is tough.
One night, sensing my wife’s melancholy, I held her as she fell into my arms, crying.
I understand; this journey is different, tough.
Our nightly ritual involves history documentaries before bed, but one evening, my wife wanted a change. She asked me to read to her.
She wanted Game of Thrones because I apparently reminded her of Ned Stark.
Midway through page 7, she dozed off, cheek pressed against my shoulder. That night, we slept deeply — the first time we ever read in bed together.
The next morning, over coffee by the big window, my wife and I chatted. Soon, she left to get dressed, and I, compelled by an inexplicable urge, checked my Medium stats.
Zeros were the norm, but that day was different.
My heart dropped; I stood up, electrified, muttering loudly. My wife rushed in, hairdryer in hand, asking what was wrong.
“Love, I made a dollar. I made a dollar!”
She embraced me, tears of joy streaming down her face.
I don’t know if I’ll make another penny on Medium, but the memory of that first dollar is etched in our journey — a feeling I’ll never forget.
