My First Article Has Gone Viral
How it took off and gained 5K views.
I’m a person who loves mystery. I thrive in the unknown. That’s the fun part of life, isn’t it? And frankly, that’s also the reason I love writing on Medium.
I love the sensation of doom when my article is a total flop. And I equally love the feeling of excitement when my article is a winner. In short, I love both the good and the bad.
It’s the unpredictable nature of writing on Medium that adds some level of excitement. When I publish each one of my articles, I wait with trepidation to unveil the unknown and see how my article will perform.
My article’s journey to semi-virality
I wrote one article titled 5 Quotes From Buddha That Will Change Your Mindset back in March 2021. It picked up a good amount of reads for the first two weeks, but then it died down. Then, quite unexpectedly, it started picking up traction again at the beginning of June. Somehow it got a second life and managed to spark the curiosity of hundreds of readers.
For two weeks starting in June I had about 200 reads every day. After that, it gradually tapered off. Now it’s the end of June and it’s still giving me anywhere from 10 to 20 reads per day.
As you can see, after my article breathed a second life, my stats hit the top of the chart, and, combined with other articles, I had 1, 202 views in one day.
As I watched my article rollercoaster ride across Medium’s viral journey, my heart fluttered with joy. It turned out to be my best article in June, significantly outperforming all the newer articles I wrote within this month.
The algorithm definitely helped to elevate my stats and brought unexpected excitement as I saw the number of reads kept increasing every day. Thanks to this one article, my expected Medium earnings will double up this month. And assuming the trend continues and I keep getting reads every day, I can’t exclude the possibility of virality.

The point of this article is to show how unpredictable writing on Medium can be. You’ll never know which one of your articles will ever go viral. Thanks to the mysterious nature of the algorithm. The perplexing nature of the algorithm is mind-boggling.
Also, don’t be surprised if an article that you least expect to go viral will suddenly take off. You’d never know when that happens, but when it does, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Of course, the more articles you write that are “Chosen for further distribution”, the higher are the chances that one of them will go viral.
So keep writing and never lose hope. Luck will strike when you least expect it.
