My Favourite Nature Reserve: Gibraltar Point, Lincolnshire UK
Friendly horses, diverse habitats and glorious coastline
This glorious nature reserve in Lincolnshire is one of my favourite places because it’s quiet, full of wildlife, and an amazing place for a stroll on a sunny day.

It’s a mixed habitat reserve on the coast, with freshwater lagoons near mudflats and a saltwater estuary. It’s a haven for wildlife.
Carpets of mauve wildflowers adorn the landscape in the summer, attracting bees and butterflies in abundance.

A bright yellow burst of ragwort brightens up some of the footpaths around the reserve, creating a glow of colour, even when it’s a bit gloomy overhead!

The coastal edge of the reserve has sandbanks for seals, areas for nesting birds, and more mauve flowers. Can you spot the offshore wind farm? See the turbines in the distance. I wrote about Norfolk’s wind farms here.

There’s managed grazing for conservation on the reserve, which they say helps the fragile rare flowers grow while keeping hardier and more dominant plants under control. Grazing animals, such as ponies and rare breeds of sheep selectively eat the hardier plants.

If you like birds, it’s a good place to visit. We’ve seen a falcon, waders, and all sorts of fancy duck varieties on the lagoons. It’s quiet, peaceful, full of nature. Perfect!
