My favorite watch faces on the Apple Watch Ultra 2

A selected pick after testing them all

I recently upgraded from the Apple Watch Series 7 to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and wrote some articles about my impressions and experiences.

I’ve been wearing the Apple Watch Ultra 2 constantly for a little over two weeks now, and I’ve been testing every watch face available for the Ultra 2. Since there are already a few articles out there, I thought it would be a good time to share my favorite watch faces with you. Here they are.

#1: Modular Ultra

My absolute favorite watch face so far is the Modular Ultra. This one (as the name suggests) is exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra 1 and 2. It takes a whopping seven complications additional to the time and the information on the bezel.

It is not only ultra-packed with information but also ultra-customizable. You can select the size and style of the digital dial which affects the amount of complications you can add to this watch face. I opted for a larger dial option because I don‘t need that many complications in everyday life.

The complications I use are activity, Spotify, battery, temperature, date, and my calendar events. For the bezel, I chose the seconds that are indicated by strokes that light up along the bezel.

In most of the screenshots, you will see that I prefer achromatic color schemes. My watch faces are predominated by grey, black, and white. I don‘t know why but intensive colors on the complications distract me.

This is my Modular Ultra watch face that I use most of the time in everyday life.

But one of the best features of the Modular Ultra watch face is the night mode. I‘ve configured this watch face to get into night mode automatically in poor lighting conditions. In night mode, the watch faces turns red at an overall low brightness of the Apple Watch screen. This is particularly useful when you wear the Apple Watch Ultra 2 during the night.

#2: Solar Analog

With the implementation of widgets on the Apple Watch in watchOS 10, there is no particular need to have a lot of complications on your watch face, unless you absolutely need to glance at them.

Whenever I do not need all the information on my Modular Ultra watch face, I prefer the Solar Analog. This watch face was newly introduced with watchOS 10. It is minimal and absolutely beautiful. You can only use two complications. I opted for the date and battery, the most important information I need. Again, I prefer to have a grayish color scheme.

#3: Color

Ready for some irony? Among my favorite watch faces is the color watch face which I do not use in a way that lives up to its name. Like on the other watch faces, I use a grey color scheme.

What I like about this watch face is its combination of style, minimalism, and information. I opted for the non-filled analog dial in the center that features only strokes instead of numbers. The arrangement of this watch face is very well made. The thickness of the dial hands is chosen just right to draw attention primarily to the time. The complications recede somewhat into the background in my perception but are still there whenever I need them.

#4: Unity Lights

This watch face has been around for quite some time. I‘m not sure whether Apple introduced some new styles for this watch face or whether I was sleeping on the customization options before. During my discovery tour through the watch faces on the Ultra 2, I found the combination of the lights in a round dial with four complications. The style of the dial is very similar to the Solar Analog which I like very much. However, this watch face allows for two more complications which come in handy on some occasions.

Like with the Color watch face, the design of the dial catches your attention when you glance at the watch to get you the time.

#5: Stripes

The Stripes watch face is extremely customizable. You can choose between a full-screen dial or a circular dial with four complications. Furthermore, you can choose between having only two or even up to nine stripes on your watch face. On top, you can customize the color for each individual stripe.

Despite all these options, I chose the combinations in a way to create my ultra-minimal watch face that I wear whenever I do not rely on any complications.

Conclusion

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 not only features an exclusive watch face but also presents older watch faces in another way than my Series 7 did.

A huge benefit is the introduction of widgets in watchOS 10 which gives much more freedom to wear complication-free watch faces without making sacrifices for quick availability of information.

In my opinion, the grayish color schemes go very well with the titanium body of the Ultra 2 and add a layer of minimalism even to the more complex watch faces.

Let me know your favorite watch face in the comments!
