My Father-in-law is Famous on YouTube
Around a year ago I started an automotive YouTube channel that currently has around 450 subscribers.
A mere 24 hours ago my father-in-law(Brad) posted his first YouTube video and as of right now he has 8,000 subscribers and 25,000 views with only one video posted!!
He may be the next MrBeast.
At first, I was a little jealous, but now I see it as a huge learning opportunity.
I am writing this as an encouragement to those struggling on YouTube and to shed light on how Brad had quick success with only 1 video. Hopefully, you can learn something from the way he approached his first YouTube video.
The 3 Keys to Success (in this case)
Spoiler: the last one is the most important.
Quality
The production quality of Brad’s video is exceptional. He hired a filmer and editor who do great work. The comment section is filled with praise for how great the camera work, editing, coloring, audio, and b-roll are. There is no idle time to lose your attention, it’s interesting all the way through and the editing keeps the viewer locked in.
He set the tone that every video he releases will be high quality.
He also had his channel branding and logo dialed in before starting the channel. He asked for suggestions from friends and family on the channel name and hired a graphic designer to create his logo and channel art. Even without a single video posted the channel already looked legit.
There is plenty of evidence out there that proves high production quality is not necessary for video success, but it certainly helps legitimize your brand quickly. It is evident from the first impression that you will want to come back to watch future videos. Brad is also great on camera and nothing about it feels forced. He is one of the most personable people I have ever met and you would think he has been vlogging for 10 years.
Relevance
Brad is a home builder. He builds custom houses and does re-models. As I’m sure you are aware, there are tons of shows and content on TV, Netflix, YouTube, etc. about home restoration, million-dollar houses, house flips, and all things home-related. People love it.
He always has a house build or remodel going on and why not film the process. He comes up with some really cool house designs and features that I know will get people hooked on the channel.
Brad has 35 years of home-building experience and knowledge to share. Aside from being entertaining, he has the opportunity to teach people about construction and the home design process. It will be cool to see him share his knowledge with a broad audience.
Connections
“It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”
As luck would have it, Brad is currently building a house for a young gentleman who has 2.5 million YouTube subscribers(Fishing with Flair). With the knowledge and resources of a guy like that, you can’t pass up the opportunity to start a channel.
He has received some great guidance from the relationship on how to start a channel and there is endless potential for collaboration. Brad and Flair have been working for a couple of months on videos and Brad has appeared in a few of Flair’s videos. In Flair’s most recent video he mentioned Brad and put up a link to his channel.
Needless to say, they have managed to get Brad’s channel off to an amazing start. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
