My Everest, I ‘Hike-u’

GiaB writer’s prompt #2 — the natural wonders of the world

I saw you, I ran, every time I got to your base. Yesterday, I reached Pakistan, then steered the wheel back my trace.

What secrets do you hide? Why are you so cold outside?

You’ve killed and destroyed, many wanderers of the world. You’ve crushed only fresh dreams, my dreams, deemed too mainstream.

And I can’t help but wonder — Was Hillary your first true love? Or, were you bored up there, under a sky too near, his gloves were the first to touch a wonder so steep?

Like the tip of an iceberg, I can see where I want to be — But what about the journey? What about the midway tease?

Meet me with your avalanches, your wind, and Khumbu icefall. One day I won’t let the fears stanch me — I will climb you and I will crawl.

You were worth one, two, and 300 lives Take mine, I no longer mind — for I want to feel your pure beauty that derives and takes breaths away.

Wonders of the world deserve a haiku, or two… But I will ‘hike-u’
