My Earnings Went up 100% in February! Still Can’t Retire Yet, Though
So, I just completed my second full month on the Medium.com platform! I am proud to say that my earnings went up by EXACTLY 100%! Oh Yeah!!
Don’t be jealous, though. Seriously, don’t be. If you are one of those writers that gets frustrated when you are reading stories of other Medium writers making hundreds of dollars every month, then let me make you feel better right now.
Yes, it is true that my earnings went up by 100%, but it is also true that I only made $14.32 in earnings for February 2024, compared to my $7.16 in earnings in January. That doesn’t sound nearly as impressive as 100% INCREASE, does it?
I’m not here to make a ton of money, so it’s all good! My goal was to make $20 in earnings in February, but fell short. I will point out, though, that much to my dismay, my account was somehow not paywalled correctly during a portion of February. I lost out on approximately seven days of earning because of this, hence, I honestly believe that I would have reached that $20 goal if I had proper paywall settings for the entire month.
Here is a brief rundown of my production in February 2024 vs January 2024:
PUBLISHED ARTICLES February: 7 January: 21
VIEWS February: 262 January: 179
READS February: 105 January: 77
MOST VIEWS OF ONE ARTICLE February: 38 January: 20
MOST READS ON ONE ARTICLE February: 22 January: 10
HIGHEST MONTHLY EARNINGS FOR ONE ARTICLE February: $3.93 January: $1.93
TOTAL EARNINGS February: $14.32 January: $7.16
LESS WRITING, MORE FIXING As you can see from the above statistics, the most glaring difference was the number of articles published. I only published 7 articles in February, which was a far cry from the 21 articles published in January. Honestly, though, some of those older articles needed some “repairs,” so instead of focusing my time on creating new content, I spent some time revising older content.
Ultimately, I want to make sure that I am 100% satisfied with every piece that I publish, regardless of how much earnings was generated by each one. I definitely rushed through some of my older work. Many of my older articles did not even have any images!
Quantity is important to me, but not as important as QUALITY, so I have no regrets in only publishing 7 new articles last month.
For the month of March 2024, I have established goals of 10 new articles published, and at least $20 in earnings. Oh, and my other goal is to make sure I monitor my paywall status every day! Having improper paywall settings for nearly a third of February was certainly a frustrating moment to say the least!
