My Earnings on Medium in February of 2022 (MY BEST MONTH YET!)

Did I get lucky?

The author’s stats for February 2022

I wrote this article back in January and turns out, many readers are curious to know what writers are making.

So, I have decided to give the readers what they want! I will be documenting my earnings on Medium every month from now on, and this happens to be the first installment in this series.

So without wasting any more time, let’s get into the juicy part!

I have been writing on Medium (on-&-off) for about 1.5 years now. I wasn’t very consistent and my stats clearly show that. Moreover, the fact that my stats are quite less compared to other writers who share their stats made me wonder if I should share mine.

Well now that I think about it, it’s a great idea to share my stats because they’ll give you a better idea of what you’ll be making on Medium as a new writer. It’s easy to get blinded by the thousands of reads and thousands of dollars, but realistically, you will not be making that kind of money in the beginning. So before we start, let’s see how much I made in the last three months:

→January: $40.06

→December: $26.60

→November: $8.03

I was on a two month hiatus before I got back into writing in November so the low amount in November makes sense.

Either way, I am proud of the steady increase in my earnings over the last three months.

Now let’s get into February’s stats

My Best Performing Articles

In business, there’s a saying, “20% of the products make 80% of the revenue.” And though I’d like all of my articles to bring in a steady amount of money, only a couple of them drove most of my earnings last month. And they were:

How I Did It

Hyperlinks

Linking old posts is a game changer.

I know linking your posts is not a new tactic and bloggers have been doing this for decades. But, if a story — with multiple hyperlinks — goes viral, it boosts your other posts way more than a post that does just fine.

This article of mine (see what I did there 😉) went viral, and yes, in a way, I did get lucky because I happened to have linked a story that I posted in the March of 2021 which did well when it was first published. It gained traction again, and made me a couple of dollars.

Here’s that article if you want to read it and make me a couple more dollars this March ;)

Understanding my audience

I used to write about a bunch of topics. All of them were linked to each other in some way (books, productivity, lifestyle, money, writing, blogging, etc.), but nevertheless, I was dipping my toes in various fields at the same time.

The moment I learned that my readers mainly cared about my posts about books and blogging (and the money making part of it), it completely skyrocketed my growth.

Writing and thinking of ideas got easier now that I didn’t have to think of ideas to write about from so many topics, and since I was giving my readers what they wanted, the engagement on my posts went up as well.

Got consistent

As someone who has been on-&-off on Medium for around 1.5 years now, I can tell with certainty that consistency pays dividends in the long run.

Ever since I started posting regularly, the algorithm started favouring me and I started getting more views. Readers started believing that I am someone they can rely on for consistent posts. This made them follow me. Hell, I got 85+ followers this month. Not to mention, you can’t understand your audience until you post consistently.

All of this, along with the consistent production of posts shot up my earnings.

I write about making money with writing and making your writing dreams come true.
