Entrepreneurship
My Dog Stops at Intersections to Observe— Do the Same for Next Level Entrepreneurship
Okay, not literally. There’s an underlying message here…
Every single morning, without fail, I take my dog for a walk. Like most people.
The only difference with my pup is that she likes to take her time. To smell the flowers, as you do (or sniff them, more like).
You might see a picture of her if you stick around.
There’s this one intersection near my house — which we pass every day — and she never fails to seek some alone time.
Just her and the world. Watching, observing, patiently waiting.
After a solid few moments, maybe a minute or two, she satisfactorily prances away. I had no clue why she formed this daily habit.
Until I realized…
My dog taught me about entrepreneurship
I’m not quite sure how it happened, but I came to quite the interesting realization on one of our daily strolls.
A business realization.
“Sometimes, it pays to be a fly on the wall.”
— Joseph Seifert
I say this all the time.
It’s one of my favorite sayings and it remains so true. My dog was able to teach me this in mere seconds with zero communication whatsoever.
As I noticed her willingness to not move a muscle and simply take in the world around her, I became convinced it was key to what I had been searching for:
An edge. In terms of entrepreneurship.
As soon as we returned home, I began scripting my thoughts.
You’re crazy, dude
Maybe I am. Still, hear this:
A lot of us not only consume content but create it too. A lot of us maybe sell said creation or are paid for our services.
That sounds like a reasonable claim to me. After all, there are tons of ways to monetize within the creator economy.
As we work on our craft though and cut through the vines, we encounter certain bumps along the way.
These bumps — also known as setbacks — may cause us to stumble now and again. We can prevent this from happening.
How you may ask?
It’s simple.
Open your eyes…
Look, learn, and earn
Yes, it is seriously as easy as that. Heck, my dog taught me!
Not so fast.
You could say that it’s incredibly easy to just copy and paste what someone does well and emulate their success.
If that were the case, everyone would do it! That isn’t to say it can’t be done.
Oftentimes, the pros have more going on — business-wise — than they let off. Systems in the background, processes built over time.
You can do it too.
Here’s some killer advice to maintain superior entrepreneurship:
Look — Find the people you admire most, preferably in your niche.
The data is everywhere. People are making money left and right, while even still doing what they love. Isn’t that what we all want?
To accomplish this, I would suggest some advice. It comes in the form of viewing top profiles and extracting their practices.
Here’s an example:
I noticed that creators were finding success with digital products.
After some visual scanning and personal efforts, I went and created a digital product for other writers. One step closer to being an internet entrepreneur!
You can view it here.
I did this with a simple look. See what they do, and compare it to yourself.
Do they look the same? What differences are there?
This is the power of observation.
It’s so simple, my dog can do it…
Learn — See what they do best, and emulate their practices.
This is the best part. The part where you increase your productivity and grow with entrepreneurship.
Take the collection of like-minded profiles and utilize one thing they do.
Whether that be a special bio, headline template, marketing tactic, or anything. Take it and run.
After some time, make sure these practices are beneficial. What works for some may not for others and it is important to understand that.
Had I completely copied my fellow writer Burk and released icon packs as digital products, I wouldn’t get the same response. It has already been done.
What did I do instead? I looked at his advice in terms of digital products and learned to create one that would suit my audience best. Thanks, Burk!
Tailor this towards whatever it is that you do. I learned it from my dog!
Earn — Post your enlightened work, and earn handsomely.
Okay, I know I said that learning was the best part, but I lied.
Makin’ money is!
Once we put our observations to work, the earnings will start to roll in. Just focus on the simple things that work.
When I began writing online, I made a formula and stuck with it. Now, I earn hundreds of dollars from articles alone!
The goal of entrepreneurship is the core of the creator economy.
Create the things you love, and make money from them! Don’t be afraid to put your work out there. It deserves to be heard and compensated!
Final thoughts
Since you’ve made it this far, I’ll let you see my doggo.
Here she is, in all her glory:

When I’m walking her each day, a lot goes through my mind. I plan, brainstorm, and dream all at the same time. It’s quite blissful.
If it wasn’t for today’s walk, I’m not sure I’d have an article for you fine folks.
The moral of the story:
As you go through life, observe. You never know what it might do for you, or when the knowledge will best serve your needs.
Takeaway
If you take one thing with you from this post, let it be this:
- Look
- Learn
- Earn
If you consistently do these three things, I think you will be fine in your entrepreneurship journey. More than fine.
Good luck and go make some money!
P.S.: You should probably get my posts in your inbox. Do that here! Medium provides a killer opportunity to earn $$ for what you know. If you’d like to try it for yourself, sign up for a membership! It supports all of the writers and it’s only $5 per month. Plus, you get the chance to profit like I did when I made over $300 in less than 3 months!
