365 Days in the Garden

My Daily Writing in 2023

An update about my challenge for this year

During 2023 I have challenged myself to write daily about gardening and other topics full of life and joy. I’ve been a little vague about what this challenge means, but at the heart of it, there are a few things I am clear about and want to share:

  • I will write every day, whether sitting at my computer, tapping out a piece on my phone, or sitting on a beach with a notebook and pen.
  • I will also hit “publish” daily on something. Sometimes (like right now), what I publish will also be what I wrote that day.
  • All these writings will have something to do with what I am loosely defining as “the garden of life.” A slightly better description might be that they all have to do with growth.
  • I will put a kicker — 365 Days in the Garden — onto my pieces to keep me focused on my challenge.

Even though I submit something for publication every day, readers may see a gap because I am writing in several publications other than my own, and editors may take a few days to publish a piece. When that happens, it all catches up sooner or later, and there may be two or even three pieces published on the same day.

Because the pieces will sometimes be unpredictable in when or where they show up, I’m going to do an occasional post that catalogs everything I’ve written in the past week or so and post them here on a Bowl Full of Lemons. I will publish the first of these catalogs tomorrow, listing everything I’ve published so far in January for the challenge. Then, I think I will do two or three such posts a month, listing everything I’ve published since the last post.

I already did one such post this month that lists pieces I wrote about gardening in the last 365 days:

I hope you will join me in this new venture by subscribing to get emails whenever something I write gets published. You can do that here or at the bottom of this story. I also hope that if you’re new to Medium and decide to subscribe, you will consider using my subscription link here. If you do so, it will not cost you anything extra, but I will get a small amount every month.
