My Crazy Playlist A to Z

All that’s A.

Well, okay, maybe not all that’s A. That would just be stupid talk. (There are a lot of A’s in my playlist and I’m not sure all of them are suitable for sharing.) Let’s go one at a time, shall we? Yes, that sounds reasonable. The first A from my rather eclectic playlist and, fair warning, in case you didn’t already know this about me, if you don’t like anything not in English, please move right along. There’s nothing for you here.

A number One: Ateez (South Korean boy group)

I’m not gonna lie: I seriously LOVE Ateez and have followed them pretty much since their debut. (A debut is what it’s called in the Korean music industry when a group officially releases its first single. Any subsequent release is called a Comeback, even though the group has very rarely been on hiatus in the interim.)

But back to Ateez.

Technically, the group began in 2016 with the acceptance as a trainee of Kim Honjoong after he approached KQ Entertainment due to his admiration of KQ Entertainment’s Block B. Honjoong went on to become the leader of Ateez after being joined by Yunho, Mingi, Jongho, Yeosang, Wooyoung, San, and Seonghwa. The group initially trained and released pre-debut material under the name KQ Fellaz before debuting as Ateez with Pirate King and Treasure as the lead singles for their first EP Treasure EP1; All to Zero in October 2018.

Since then, Ateez have sold over 4 million physical albums globally, have toured extensively, and have served as official ambassadors for South Korean culture and tourism. They give no indication of slowing down any time soon.

Ateez are masters of high-energy dance and anthem-like power tracks. They have a natural affinity for the audience and fully immerse themselves in every performance, continually striving to improve and challenge themselves. They’re fun, addictive, and totally engaging. In case you missed it: I’m a huge fan and would very happily pay to see them in concert. (A K-con is on my ultimate bucket list! If only they had them here in New Zealand.)

Members:

Hongjoong (1998): Leader, main rapper, vocalist, composer

Seonghwa (1998): Lead dancer, vocalist, sub-rapper

Yunho (1999): Main dancer, vocalist

Yeosang (1999): Lead dancer, vocalist

San (1999): Lead vocalist, main dancer, and my personal bias, as in, my favorite member of the group and the one my attention invariably fixes on. There is something about San that completely captivates me. And, just to be clear, that’s a completely aesthetic appeal, thank you very much!

Mingi (1999): Main dancer, main rapper

Wooyoung (1999): Main dancer, vocalist

Jongho (2000): The youngest and thus known as the maknae of the group. Main vocalist

KQ Fellaz (Ateez pre-debut performance video)

In case anybody’s counting, there are nine members present in KQ Fellaz, one of them being Junyoung who ultimately did not debut with Ateez due to his relatively short trainee period.

Pirate King (debut release; 2018)

Promise (written and performed as a fan service, specifically for Atinys; Ateez fans)

Black Cat (playing it up on Immortal Songs with their own version of a popular classic)

And San (my bias, remember?) is the one with the lipstick. . .

Symphony №9 from The Wonderland (Kingdom Wars)

Say My Name (dance practice 1)

Followed by. . .

Say My Name (dance practice 2: 2 X FASTER)

I dare you to not laugh!

Halazia (latest release)

They’ve come a very long way from Pirate King to Halazia and this is by no means any more than a sample of their journey. I thoroughly recommend you check them out further; they’re well worth it.

To all of you fabulous writers out there,

Kia kaha and aroha nui. 💞

Fighting! 👊
