My Crazy Journey of Hackintosh!
Modifying my Dell computer to force it to act completely differently!

Please Note: The Following Information Below is for Educational purposes only!
I am not responsible for any damage done to your computer if you attempt to do this crazy stunt! I am only sharing my story so you can learn something new this is by all means NOT to be attempted at all costs.
Remember this is for Educational Purposes.
I DO NOT SUPPORT Hackintosh. This is just my story of why I had to do it for my dream job. By all means, I do not endorse any of this at all and I strongly recommend you go out and purchase a used Mac.
Intro:
Back before my Apple days. I was fully Windows. I only used Windows OS up till my big life-changing event. The job I am currently working at requires me to learn Apple computers. After all the workplace is about 90% Apple Technology. Sadly, back then I only had my trusty old Dell Laptop. Here is a prequel to my epic story of becoming an Apple Tech Specialist.
Hackintosh 101:
When you see this work you probably think I am some type of notorious hacker. Nope far from it. The term Hackintosh became very well-known by one of the pioneers Tony Macx. Of course, no one truly knows who invented the Hackintosh but it is frowned upon by the Apple community. Sadly, I didn’t have money back then and I was desperate to learn about the Apple Computer.
What is Hackintosh?
I am glad you asked cause that is the main point of this article. Hackintosh to my knowledge is taking a Windows computer, Linux computer, or some type of computer that is running an Operating System that is NOT Apple and then taking that computer and installing a macOS onto the Non-Apple Computer and trying to use Apple macOS. You are modifying your computer at the Operating System level to have macOS run.
Why should I care about Hackintosh?
Wow, you asking really good questions here my friend. Because for us “nerds” breaking things and building things is like a ritual of passage to your right becoming the ultimate I.T. Technician. Come on now you I.T. Techs out there tell me if I am wrong. You wanted to test your skills and try all kinds of crazy things, right? Well, Hackintosh is one of those “crazy” things. Does that mean you should do it? Absolutely, not.
Should I Hackintosh my Windows Computer?
Absolutely, NOT! You see that. The answer is NO and NO. Why am I writing about it then? Because it is an interesting topic and this is for I.T. Professionals Only. Even for I.T. Professionals, it shouldn’t be done.
Why did I Hackintosh my Dell Laptop?
I was desperate to get my dream job which I am reaching 8 years in soon. I couldn’t have gotten this job without Hackintosh my Dell laptop. I had to learn macOS and no one was going to just let me use their $1000+ computer willy-lily. I had to find a way to learn and sadly, all the library Mac computers were always being fought over, and back then when I had to learn we didn’t have much at all.
Trust me I say this is for I.T. Professionals only, because I wasn’t quite one yet and almost destroyed my only computer. Hackintosh comes with great risk. This is so important I am going to repeat myself.
Hackintosh comes with great risk!
You got that right? It is not meant to happen. You are modifying your computer to become something entirely different. Imagine this. You have a trusty old Ford Focus and it runs on gas. But, you being the crazy scientist decide to take the engine out and put in a water running engine. This engine runs with the power of putting in water. What do you think is going to happen? Yeah, your Ford Focus is trashed and it will probably never run again.
Windows computers are meant to run Windows. It is not meant to run macOS. This is a fundamental rule of computing technology. But, Tony Macx found a way to change all that!
The Great Tony Macx the Legend!
Tony is a legend in the tech world. He still runs his site for brave souls willing to go down the Hackintosh world. At your own risk check out his website if you are brave enough:

Oh wow, you clicked on it! You are a brave soul indeed. That means you are serious about this huh?
WARNING: This guide to Hackintosh is Not to be attempted. So, click the link to the guide to learn how Hackintosh works as an Educational research. If you attempt to do this for real well, you will run the risk of permanent damage to your computer. You have been warned thank you.

Basic Run Down of the Hackintosh Process:
Again this is for Educational purposes and Not to be attempted.
- One must obtain a macOS from Apple.com.
- Once you get the installation DMG file of your choice head over to Tonymacx86.com and find the installation guide for your macOS.
- Make sure you install the macOS to a bootable USB drive.
- Make sure all the drivers match the Hackintosh software for your specific Windows computer. All hardware and drivers must match for the Hackintosh to work successfully.
- Once you follow the crazy complicated guide provided by Tony you should be good to go.
Why do People Hackintosh?
I heard they do it because you can custom build your computer to your exact liking we Tech Nerds call these Custom Rigs. We love to get the most powerful processors, RAMs, GPU cards, mobo (motherboard), power supply, and endless possibilities to customize our computer.
Why is Windows so great? Because you can literally build your own powerful computer and install Windows OS.
Sadly, Apple computers don’t allow this. This is one of the major things I dislike about Apple. You are stuck with what they give you. You can customize the bare minimum at the Apple website when getting your Mac computer and that is it. Back in the good old days, we could at least upgrade the hard drive and RAM but with the newer Mac computers even the RAM is not upgradable and that to me is infuriating.
This is why Hackintosh exists. Some people like macOS so much they are willing to build a computer and install macOS on it thus Hackintosh was born.
What Happen to My Dell Laptop?
I was able to install macOS Mavericks and was able to learn the macOS interface for my job. I did however almost come close to breaking my laptop many times so it wasn’t easy.
I would never do Hackintosh ever again. But, it was a fun project nonetheless to test your wits and see how far you can push your brain to achieve something close to impossible. Back, when I did Hackintosh it was something few people could do. Now, with technology, it is probably way easier.
Conclusion:
I hope you enjoy reading about my crazy Hackintosh adventure. I hope you learned something new and this article is for educational purposes only! Please do not “actually” try this on your Windows computer. Thanks for reading and I hope you found this interesting my friends. 😄
