My Country is Drowning

The flood has created humanitarian crises in Pakistan

I live in Canada but I grew up in Pakistan. My country is drowning in flood right now.

I am so sad and concerned . Nearly 1000 people have died and millions are without shelter. The flood has affected millions of houses across the country.

This is devastating. Most of the casualties are from Balochistan and Sindh province.

I can’t even imagine what my people are going through right now.

I am constantly receiving heart-wrenching videos through Whatsapp of people crying and in need of help. Many have lost everything they own. The flood has destroyed crops, livestock and infrastructure.

There was this footage of 5 brothers. It was so sad. They were standing on top of the rock with water all around them. The weather was bad, water was flowing so fast, help could not reach them but they did not give up. They kept fighting for their lives for 4 to 5 hours but eventually the water took them away and all five brothers died.

I can’t stop thinking about that video.

This is just one story. I am so worried about my people.

In some of the videos the houses were falling down like cards and the flood water was taking everything away with it.

I hope and pray that my people are safe.

But many are not.

A mother gave birth and was most likely carried away by the flood. The newborn was found all alone, umbilical cord still attached, buried in the mud.

The floods have destroyed crops, homes, and infrastructure, and they have had a devastating effect on the economy. It has also created a humanitarian crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people without access to clean water, food, or shelter. The Pakistani government has been criticized for its slow response to the floods, and there is a growing feeling of anger and frustration amongst the Pakistani people.

In just a matter of days, the floods have wreaked havoc on the lives of millions of people. In addition to causing damage to homes and businesses, the floods have also cut off access to clean water and basic medical care. As a result, the death toll is expected to rise in the coming days. The Pakistani government has appealed for international assistance.

But much more needs to be done. The floods have caused immense suffering for Pakistan’s people, and it will take a long time for the country to recover.

I have been watching the news so I know people from Pakistan are selflessly helping those in need regardless of what province they belong to. My friends, extended family and community in Canada are also sending donations.

There are many organizations collecting donations for flood victims in Pakistan.

I personally donated to HOPE registered in Canada. Please donate generously to save lives.
