My Cat Loves Music

Chakra-cleansing sound baths and rap, to be specific

This isn’t my cat. She’d never let me put headphones on her. Photo by Melwin Rodriguez from Pexels

A vase hit the floor as Snickers, my calico kitty, dashed to the living room.

“Can’t you run without knocking things over?” I sighed.

As usual, Snickers ignored me. Purring loudly, she climbed on my chest and made herself comfortable.

Surprised, I asked, “Since when do you actually like snuggling?”

My other cats love human interaction, but Snickers is more of a loner. She glares at us from her cat condo and acts disgusted when we try petting her. We love her anyway — from a distance.

I was worried my cat would ditch me if I made any sudden movements, so I carefully adjusted the volume on my phone. Eyes closed, I inhaled slowly as a Reiki master continued playing her crystal bowls.

The music was beautiful. As the soothing sounds continued, so did Snickers’ purring. She remained on my chest, humming happily until I turned off the music on my phone. Annoyed, she walked away to sulk by her food dish.

Wait…was my cat into meditation music?

Listening to music is often viewed as a human hobby, but maybe cats can enjoy music, too. Snickers adored me when I played calming music, but she left when the video ended.

I did some digging, and it turns out that sound healing for cats is a thing. When you listen to someone play music using crystal bowls, also known as Tibetan singing bowl therapy, it helps cats and dogs relax. Over time, your pets may become happier and less anxious. No wonder Snickers loves her chakra-cleansing sound baths so much.

After learning about the benefits of feline sound healing, I went on a YouTube journey. Here’s a video I found with relaxing music for cats:

Yes, my cat enjoys this sound-healing music. If we’re being honest, I like it too.

The video below isn’t specifically for cats, but Snickers loves these crystal bowls. These are the bowls that first caught her attention, actually. We found the user, Everything Spiritual, on TikTok and then looked up the YouTube account.

Interestingly enough, Snickers also enjoys rap music. I often wonder if it’s because her former owners blasted Three 6 Mafia constantly. They were my neighbors, and their speakers got quite a workout.

Maybe hearing rap at my house brings back good memories for Snickers. After all, research shows that some cats remember their former owners.

That might not be why Snickers likes Lil Wayne and Snoop, though — perhaps she just has eclectic taste when it comes to music. Fortunately for her, I do too. She’ll never get stuck being a single-genre cat here.

Does your cat like music? If so, what kind?
