Your body is speaking louder than your words
My body, My Responsibility — BODY LANGUAGE
Non-verbal communication & Kinesics
Yes, it is theory but true. Professor Mehrabian combined the statistical results and came up with the famously misused rule that communication is only 7 percent verbal and 93 percent non-verbal. The non-verbal component was made up of 55 percent body language and 38 percent tone of voice.
Body language is a type of nonverbal communication. It exists in both animals and humans. It is also known as kinesics. Kinesics was first used in 1952 by an anthropologist named Ray Birdwhistell. Birdwhistell wished to study how people communicate through posture, gesture, stance, and movement.
Body language is an important part of our communication. Most of it happens without conscious awareness. Understanding body language is also important, but it is also essential to pay attention to other cues such as context. In many cases, you should look at signals as a group rather than focusing on a single action.
Here are some examples, tricks, and the meanings of them.
If a person walks upright and moves his shoulders often, it indicates that he is an active person. This can be compared to the actions of a tiger or a cat while hunting. If a person keeps his shoulders motionless while walking upright, it indicates his power.
Another classic body language game is “door games”. It shows that the last person to enter the house is the owner of the house. The meaning of this is “you’re welcome, but I’m the boss here”. That means “I am the dominant person, and at the same time, his personal qualities are stronger than him”. Those who want to look strong can often be felt at the meetings and greetings of world leaders. When two leaders shake hands, whoever’s hand is on top, that shows his authority. Elbow grabbing is also an indicator of power.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED DURING “2000 CAMP DAVID SUMMMIT”?!
Nodding of the head is generally considered as a sign of saying “yes”. When used in conversation it may be interpreted as a sign of approval and encourage the speaker to go on. Shaking the head is usually interpreted as meaning ‘no’. In terms of meaning, it is the opposite of nodding (except India).
It is also possible to distinguish a person’s body language from sitting. Neat and good posture are the factors that show more personal qualities. If three people are sitting side by side, the person in the center seems to be “the most important” to us.
If a person puts his hands behind his back and one hand holds the other, it means “I am open to questions”. In this situation, if he touches the other hand or the palm of his hand with his fingers, it means, “Don’t worry, I can handle it”. This is a defensive instinct. Be sure, that person has a secret or s/he is lying.
Body language, on the other hand, does not have a grammar system and must be interpreted broadly. Experts in this field use a method called norming to clarify body language. norms are very important for decryption.
People use body language more when they feel threatened.
If a person wears sunglasses constantly, it means that she is protecting herself. If a person’s eyes are visible, it is interpreted as the “appearance of his soul”.
If a person walks slowly and crosses her fingers, it means that she is frustrated and reprimanded. This feature is more common in girls.
Covering one’s mouth suggests suppression of feeling and perhaps uncertainty. This could also mean that they are thinking hard and may be unsure of what to say next. This feature is also more common in girls.
The importance of body language was created to gain an image in politics. It first happened in the US elections in 1960. Nixon gained a great image in these elections through body language. Politicians use many methods to gain image. As we know, being the head of a country does not mean just winning elections. People need to be shown that they would be supported. To do this, great leaders show their solidarity with the people.
Sometimes some thoughts cannot be explained. Words deny actions. Therefore, it is very important to master body language. Body parts must move synchronously. They must be in harmony with words.
THE EYES CHICO, THEY NEVER LIE!
The eyes are often called, “the windows of the soul” as they can send many different non-verbal signals. The eyes reveal our thoughts and emotions most accurately. They’re placed in the strongest focal position on the body.
Police also receive body language training. Body language is an important part of any career, but it is particularly valuable in law enforcement. This allows them to recognize criminals and further investigations.
Voice also tells us a lot. When we are under pressure, the tone of voice can suddenly change. Controlling the tone of voice allows us to control our body language. Women’s tone is softer and sadder. This is because women’s emotional hemispheres are stronger.
Unfortunately, many people send negative nonverbal signals without even knowing it. That’s why both connection and trust are damaged. Managing our body language can give us great benefits. It takes a lot of work.
