My Biggest “Aha!” About Medium

It changed my whole perspective

My biggest “Aha!” about writing on Medium so far came, of all places, from Steve Martin’s autobiography, Born Standing Up.

The whole book is great, but I only highlighted one passage within the entire 204 pages.

In the book, Martin says:

I learned a lesson: It was easy to be great. Every entertainer has a night where everything is clicking. These nights are accidental and statistical: like lucky cards in poker, you can count on them occuring over time. What was hard was to be good, consistently good, night after night, no matter what the abomindable circumstances.

This struck a chord with me. I can count on those accidental and statistical viral articles over time. But I can’t predict them.

My only job is to be good, consistently good, day after day, no matter what.
