My Angels Helped Me . . . Twice.

How do you explain this?

Story #1

The year was 1995 and I was living in Costa Rica. I was pregnant with twins but did not know at the time that I was having twins. I had a General Practitioner as my doctor. I did not speak Spanish so when my friend took me to her doctor who was Spanish I could not answer questions that he asked. The next best thing was to go to the G.P. who could speak Spanish, English and German.

His name was Dr. Mora-mora. He was a nice person and very patient. At least I could communicate with him. He examined me in a general manner, took blood pressure, pulse, etc. I asked why was I so big already at two months. He said that since I had already had a baby previously my body was stretched out so I felt bigger. (At this writing, this sounds silly to me, but I digress.) He found that I was anemic so each week I would go to a clinic to give blood and be monitored while taking iron supplements. And I would also have to pay for it. Money was low so I was anxious about that.

I went to his office each month to get weighed and checked as usual. In the meantime, I was having a really hard time sleeping because of my heavy self and I could never get comfortable. And to add to this, my husband was always out on the town with his female friends getting drunk, dancing, coming home late drunk, etc. which caused me a lot of anxiety.

One evening, pretty close to my due date, I was in so much pain due to Braxton-Hicks contractions occurring that I was unable to sleep. I did not have a comfortable bed to sleep in because the one I had was a “Costa Rica make-believe” bed which was bamboo, but the mattress on top of it was only a four inch piece of form rubber. My weight mashed it down so thinly that I could feel the slats which made my back hurt. My husband who came home from a drunken party got the good bed where he was passed out.

I gave up on that and went into the living room to sleep in a higher chair with my feet up. That was bad as well. I could not get comfortable and I wanted to cry.

This specific problem went on for at least a week or two until I dreaded night coming on and I had to try to sleep. I was exhausted, anxious, upset, lonely and I really felt I had no where to turn.

As the evening got closer, I tried to get comfortable again, but it was no use. I was due really soon but was not sure when. In my pain and upset trying to sleep and find a comfortable position I just broke down and cried. I asked the Angels to please help me. I felt I could not do all this alone. A drunk husband that didn’t care. A family back in the states that didn’t care. No help anywhere!

I closed my eyes for only a second and suddenly a warm feeling came over me. I felt a pressure around my shoulders. I felt someone saying, “Don’t worry. It will all be OK.” Then I broke down in tears and was able to relax. The next thing I knew it was morning. I woke up, the sky was blue, the air was fresh, and the day smelled wonderful. It was the Monday after Easter.

I went into labor that day. It all turned out fine. The babies were beautiful and healthy. Blond with blue eyes holding hands with each other.

I was overwhelmed with relief when it was all over. I attribute it all to my Angel that watches over me. I will never forget that experience.

Story #2

This next story occurred in Duluth, Georgia in 1997. We were “homeless” but living in an apartment through the grace of God. It was a nice, safe area and we lived on the third floor. We had a nice balcony off the living room. It was furnished with an apartment-sized washer and dryer and all the other appliances needed. We did not have any furniture except for mattresses to sleep on, toys, and sweet little boys to keep us entertained that helped us get through each day.

Our usual schedule was to get up, feed the boys, eat breakfast, then take them for a stroll around the property. It was a very nice day in the early fall in Georgia. It was crisp and fresh.

I found that morning that we didn’t have much money for food and baby needs and, boy, did we need it. Twins are something else.

We took the babies and the stroller down three flights of stairs. We loaded them up and we started walking the property. I was in a state of high anxiety not knowing where we would get any money.

Suddenly, something told me to look down. I did and noticed a five dollar bill on the ground. I was surprised as you might think. I looked around to see where it could have come from thinking that it had blown from someone’s grasp as they were getting in their car, but no one was around. We kept on strolling but I kept vigilant watching for more. We went about 50 feet or more and I found two $20 bills, picked it up. I was getting a little happier each time. We went further and I picked up a $10 bill laying under a small bush.

We were heading for the playground which was really far from the parking lot and down a hill. We would usually go there to swing the boys. I kid you not, I found two $20 dollar bills there stuck next to a tree. That was the best walk I ever made. All in all we found $65 or so.

I could go and get a little food, milk and diapers. This is another example of how my Angels helped me. I wrote this story in a small magazine a few years ago and made another $100.

Angels are around us all the time and they will help if you ask. I need to remember this myself as well.
