My 3rd $100 Earner Post on Medium (this one was unexpected)

2 Commenters wanted to know more about the recent Post that earned over $0.25 per read. (at scale)

Today is day 6

Writing about what happened at the end of day 5 of February.

I didn’t expect to write this one so early.

3 days ago I wrote on one of my posts on Feb. 3, at the time the earnings per read was just right over 0.25 per read.

Image of a line from a post on Feb 3.

I expect it to go downwards as most post does with earning over time. (but it surely did surprise me when I took a second look at it today)

Well, see it for yourself.

Image of story stats of “Write A Catalyst — A Publication”

$106.52/403=0.265 per read on average.

The earnings per read of this post went up despite that the reading ratio went down. I’ll post all the detailed metrics at the end for your reference.

Rewind a bit and want to thank Sidra Khan and Cyn BehindMind for reminding me that they want to know more about it.

Welcome Pub Post Earning 0.25+ per read.(at the time)

In addition, this post is being cut off by 4 days of data in Jan. and 5 days in Feb.

Which creates a comparison on its own.

Let’s look at the number even closer. (again the charts will be at the end of the post)

Jan 4 days vs Feb 5 days (as I am writing this, there are things that you may find that I haven’t realized even when I’m done posting it, so keep reading)

Let’s grab all the main metrics here and see what is going on.

Jan 4 days, Earned: $54.02,

Member view and read: 289 & 221.

Member read ratio: 76%

Earning per read = 54.02/221= 0.244 (I was right for a day, it did drop)

Feb 5 days, Earned $43.34

Member view and read: 228 & 149.

Member read ratio: 65%

Earning per read = 43.34/149= 0.291 (I’m trying to see why the increase)

I am taking a wild guess, it has to do with new followers and new audience reading the content.

You see when I launch the Publication, the first thing that happens is the post will be pushed out to my existing readers first by Medium.

Where I obviously did that too, but what caught my attention was the number of new audience that were interested in the Pub.

I did put some backend effort into getting them intentionally to help out the new writers since most large Publications are well established already.

Which does contradict my belief in growing as a new writer on Medium. (well our pub will be there one day, but before that, I’ll make sure it makes it a fun journey)

In other words, we resonate with the one that we resonate most, which is a beginner with a mindset to grow

In order for that to happen, you have to read and write with them. I see it as a batch at a time. Where each batch of writers can relate to one another in a unique and time-sensitive way.

These moments will stick with each writer as they grow, like a good old friend that you haven’t seen for a long time.

Now, let's go back to the metrics. There is only one that I see that stands out for the increase per read.

Total Followers/Reads(which is also New Followers/Reads, where each follower is a new follower)

Jan 4 days: 32/221= 0.145 or 14.5% new follower gain.

Feb 5 days: 26/149= 0.175 or 17.5% new follower gain.

That was a 3% increase, where I see the whole engagement portion created the jump in earnings per read from $0.244 to 0.291(I’ll leave it at that)

Now the detail charts below for your research if you are interested.

To Conclude, making friends on Medium is important as Ryan Canady mentioned that many of them could be busy with their own lives or change course and could drop Medium after New Year's Resolution hype.

Therefore, engaging with a new audience or new writer is even better and critical to staying relevant and on-trend with the platform.

If you have any questions, let me know, and if you are interested in knowing what are the 3 Posts that I Earned $100 each on, let me know as well. (this is one of them since there have been more new audiences than ever, would make sense to share them, what do you think?)
