My 30 Day Challenge

30 stories, 30 pubs, 30 days

Inspired by David Majister’s successful 30 day challenge, I’m pledging to submit 30 stories/articles to 30 different publications in 30 days. Just typing that is daunting, but I’ve already made up my mind and there’s no going back on it now!

Why am I doing this?

For the same reason that most people who take on this challenge do it, I expect. I want to get into the habit of writing regularly and push myself in the process.

Goals

  • Surpass 100 followers to be eligible to earn through Medium (currently at 57)
  • Broaden my horizons and branch out into more genres
  • Connect and network with new writers
  • Have 30 published stories in 30 days

The ultimate goal is to have fun, of course, while pushing myself to the outer edges of my comfort zone. I enjoy a challenge and aim to develop a pattern of consistency so that writing becomes a more regular thing.

Side note: I’m completely ignoring the fact that my uni work starts in a week. I’m good at prioritising.

Sadly I’ve found that there aren’t that many active publications accepting fiction writers, so this means I’ll likely be writing a few non-fiction articles along the way. This shouldn’t be a problem as I used to earn a little bit of extra cash writing web content and articles as a freelancer a few years ago, though I’m going to make my priority flash/microfiction across a range of genres.

If you know of any small/upcoming fiction pubs accepting new writers that I may not be aware of, please do let me know! I currently have a spreadsheet with a list of 20, but it would be great if I could make the full 30 fiction.

I’m going to be keeping track of my progression and will share a results post at the end of the 30 days to let everyone know how I did.

Day 1 is tomorrow. Let’s do this!
