Musings of Spring

Prelude to summer

A burst of stamen, ruffled dust the shadowed hint of slanting light, a buttered breath of poppy seed, and hyacinth of tiny grapes,

and daffodils — look close, you’ll see those trumpets calling, announcing spring.

And tuberose, with lips of red, a girl of ten with crimson paint, and violet hair with lemon streaks, defying life’s uncertainty,

and primrose velvet, sheened with mist a fairy’s bed, beneath the tulips, there it waits for queenly slumber, the land of nod beckoning. A hint of summer,

warm upon the barest feet, summons time and memories of younger days, spent idylly when poems ran free and dreams were dreamed.
