MUSINGS

a period of reflection or thought

A black charcoal drawing by me dating back to March 24, 2017.

The rhythm breaks…!

I catch the rhyme-scheme.

I tie her down

and tell her to scream.

She fails to understand

why I torture her.

“I’ve got the words

But you ain’t working well”, I scold her.

“You hold metaphors

so close to your heart.

Similes would make sure

the ideas don’t fall apart.

The musty smell of paper

coaxes you to write some more.

Imagery shall fall in line,

For you’ve got words galore.

Thread the words

like pearls on a string.

And let the cherub give them wings.

By and by

thus you personify.

What began as a spark

won’t ever die.

A sad smile

A tearful joy

juxtaposed together

to play the ploy.

If you ever slip out of track

Refrain is going to help you crack.

If you ever slip out of track

Free verse is the easiest hack.

From the hiss of the dark

To the tink of the lark,

O-n-o-m-a-t-o-p-o-e-i-a

shall come into play.

Chin up braveheart!

Your poetry shall see

the light of the day!”
