15 Curated Song & Album Selections to Stream for High Focus Work

Today, I have the dribbling brook music, the soothing pan flute ambiance, the swish of ocean waves…it’s like a meditation myriad of sounds in my room. I do this because some types of sound resonate with my soul and make me calmer — WHILE opening up my mind for steady and high concentration, a feat not easily done with my ADHD brain skipping beats to its own ramshackle drums.

My brain needs help.

And I’ve discovered some types of music and sound really work for me. Today, I’m sharing 15 of my favorites. I have Amazon Music so I usually tell Alexa to play one of these for me. I’ve included Amazon Music links and where possible, the YouTube links for you to easily play it right here for a sample.

Happy listening!

What Makes for a Good High Concentration Music?

  • No words!
  • No singing!
  • No harsh or sharp sounds.
  • Nature sounds mixed in are a plus or a feeling of connectedness to nature.
  • Longer playtimes are a plus.
  • A sense of floating or openness helps to open the mind and relax the shoulders and body. A transcendental feel, perhaps.
  • I kind of like an indigenous or tribal kick sometimes.
  • I prefer no clear melody (because my brain will try to pick apart the patterns and that is distracting) but something more fluid.

I find this kind of music frees me from stress connections and helps me focus on the work before me. Yes, even with ADHD and a high propensity for pacing the floor when nervous, these types of music set me free to work on my writing and editing.

I welcome you to check out any of my top 15 on this list and save this post for future reference. If you have suggestions for me (especially for really good tongue drum, acoustic guitar, or pan flute playlists, I welcome you to leave a link in the comments.)

Alexa….play Japanese Flute!

This one is a one hour loop and you can subscribe for a longer version. It’s an Alexa app.

Alexa…play Ocean Waves! OK…Playing Ocean Waves by Joe Baker.

Sometimes I play this one ALL DAY. but I’d love to find a version this nice with some gull sounds in the background.
