Music Is Not Measured in Views.
Music is not for competition
The purpose of music is to evoke an emotion or serve as a therapeutic in a time of distress.
Music is creative and passionate. Although the term “music business” exists, it does not mean the music itself, should be treated like a business. It is divided into two parts, as with any other creative field:
- creation
- promotion
That being said, when a new piece of music or a song comes out, instead of streaming it might be a way to financially support our favorite artist, but it is not genuine support.
Genuine respect for a song would mean listening to it or watching it with intent, appreciating the little details and the artist’s creative procedure, and actually reading the credits.
Think of a “fan” streaming their favorite artist’s music. I imagine them putting on that particular song on many devices and instead of truly listening to it, just putting it on to increase views.
A rule of thumb for music is to listen to a song that will help you feel better, either by positive lyrics or relatable lyrics. In all ways, try not to listen to a depressing song when you are happy just to increase the views of that song. You can, although, listen to an exciting song when you are feeling blue if you feel like being uplifted.
Don’t stream a song just because it’s from your favorite artist, but you genuinely don’t enjoy that song.
Music is not for you to break records intentionally as viewers. If a song is good, and the artist promotes it well — the finances are the creator’s job, not yours as the listener — they will eventually break records.
So, enjoy a song without having the pressure to support your favorite artists through views. You can show your sincere respect to them by truly listening. And the latter is the reason why music exists in the first place.
