Summary

The website content discusses the phenomenon of music frisson, a pleasurable sensation often accompanied by goosebumps and tingling skin, particularly in relation to 8D audio and its prevalence among individuals with Autism and ADHD.

Abstract

The article titled "I Get Chills: Music Frisson" explores the concept of frisson, which is a sudden strong feeling of excitement, specifically in the context of music. It explains that music frisson is a psychophysiological response that can induce pleasurable sensations such as skin tingling, goosebumps, or pupil dilation. The article highlights that 8D music, which often includes binaural beats—tones in each ear at slightly different frequencies—can trigger frisson. These binaural beats are suggested to have additional benefits like aiding sleep, reducing anxiety, and improving mood and focus. The author, Jillian Enright, notes a personal connection, mentioning that they are autistic and have ADHD, and they have a playlist named "stimmy music" that gives them frisson. The article also points out that a significant majority of people who react to 8D music and describe their experiences online are also autistic and have ADHD.

Opinions

  • The author identifies as neurodiverse (autistic and ADHD) and suggests a personal affinity for "stimmy music" that induces frisson.
  • There is an implication that individuals with Autism and ADHD may be more likely to experience music frisson, especially with 8D audio.
  • The article conveys that 8D music and binaural beats are not only enjoyable but also potentially beneficial for sleep, anxiety reduction, mood improvement, and focus enhancement.
  • The author seems to advocate for the exploration of 8D audio as a means to experience music frisson, especially given its positive effects on well-being.

I Get Chills: Music Frisson

Why some music gives us goosebumps

Created by author

Frisson means a sudden strong feeling of excitement.

Music frisson refers to aesthetic chills and a psychophysiological response to music, inducing a pleasurable sensation (i.e. skin tingling), and sometimes causing goosebumps or pupil dilation.

If you search for 8D audio you’ll find cool compilations likely to induce frisson. You’ll also find videos of people reacting to 8D music and describing their experiences.

You may also find that a significant majority of these people are Autistic and ADHD. (I’m one of them.) I have an entire playlist entitled “stimmy music” which gives me frisson.

Why does some music give us chills?

8D music includes something called binaural beats: tones in each ear at slightly different frequencies, which can:

  • Help with sleep & relaxation
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Improve mood & focus
  • …Just feels good!
