MrBeast - It’s Never Been Done Before but that didn’t stop him

It’s All Or Nothing

But…It’s never been done before… so don’t do it!

But Why NOT?

It can be very discouraging to do something that has never been done before. However, it can also be very intimidating to do something that has. Saying it’s never been done before is becoming a repetitious loser’s mindset to give up on something before it’s even been attempted. It discourages many from attempting their potential.

MrBeast YouTube

However, for 23-year-old YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson it’s his life’s motto. Jimmy otherwise known as an online pseudonym, MrBeast has been most known for giving away large sums of money to poor people, pizzaman, twitch streamers, and anyone else for YouTube content. Using this unprecedented content creation method, he has a long track record of taking risks in becoming a full-time Youtuber. It was either YouTube or nothing. Unlike most creators, MrBeast is always looking to reinvest the money he makes right at the moment. Buying and building more elaborate spectacle setups like blowing up 600,000 Worth of Fireworks and World’s Most Dangerous Escape Room.

Pinterest

Like most successful YouTubers, Mrbeast is one of the largest not because of one single format but because of his willingness to be open to new video ideas. MrBeast started growing his channel as a gaming channel. He then put down the controller and became a reaction and product review channel buying unnecessary expensive stuff like the world’s most expensive apps and 1,000 keyboards. He then used the challenge format challenging himself to do near impossible mentally draining activities that nobody really cares about like counting to 100,000, 200,000, saying Logan Paul’s name 100,000 times, or watching Jake Paul’s “It’s Everyday bro” for ten hours consecutively. Although this may seem irrational it is a carefully strategic marketing tactic to stand out from the rest.

The Marketing Expert

Some of his biggest viral videos have to do with giving away hundreds of thousands (in some cases millions) of dollars to game contestants, friends, family, homeless/ poor people, twitch streamers, and random people he can find on the street. Some he makes them compete in challenges like a real life Monopoly with real money or other times he just leaves overtrips food services workers a few grand or more. These videos constantly go viral receiving around 15 million to 30 million. The way he funds his videos is through sponsors, an online store, and ad revenue.

One of his greatest marketing stunts was opening a free restaurant that paid people to eat there. The restaurant is still open, but no longer free. The grand opening was used to market his new product MrBeast Burger which you can now find online in over 1,000 stores nationwide. To get fans more interactive with the channel MrBeast is always doing giveaways. From people commenting on his videos, putting golden tickets in his chocolate bars merch for a chance to win a lot of money, and flying his subscriber out to compete in challenges for a chance to win money.

The Gambler

What people may say you are crazy may only be true until you become a success then you a genius. Being a Youtuber is a lot like being a gambler your constantly taking a risk by putting all your chips into the same pot. But you’re not just taking risks, you’re taking strategic calculated moves. And if it doesn’t pay off then you’re crazy, but if it does pay off then you’re a genius.

When it comes to attempting things that have never been done before, MrBeast is not easily intimidated by such trivialities. He has been there, done that. Even if it’s something nobody cares to do like counting to 100,000, 200,000,

Although it may seem like a crazy person going insane with nothing better to do, in reality, it is a strategic calculating marketing strategy to stand out from the rest.

Going Viral!

Although it’s unlikely that most people watched these day-long videos, that did not deter them from checking out his other crazy shorter videos that are on a larger scale of production that most other Youtubers would not be doing. Videos such as destroying his friend’s car and buying him a new one, filling One million Orbez in a backyard, and building a working Lego car. These videos all went viral for their creativity and mainly because most YouTubers don’t do such large-scale productions. In the start he would spend 10,000 on a video to go viral, now he spend about 3.5 million. Costs would go to paying editors, production design, cameraman, and the large prize pool giveaway.

Breaking the Internet

Breaking the internet is a term used not just for viral videos on YouTube, but for those viral videos that go above and beyond that crossing over to all media platforms. MrBeast’s In Real Life Squid Game video was one of those rare exceptions. In the first week, it got more views than what the original Netflix Squid Game had for its first month. MrBeast’s Squid Game was number one trending on YouTube for four consecutive days garnishing 103 million views. It currently has 238 million views, it’s his first video to get over 200 million views and probably won’t be his last.

The New Mass Media

Mass Media is a term for those that have the largest reach to the masses in media. It can be from any platform from print to digital. Traditionally it has been news networks like Fox or CNN, however, in more recent times it has become synonymous with social media influencers such as MrBeast.

Some of the best ratings for these companies tend to be about 5 to 10 million views. MrBeast has Youtube videos 15 to 30 times that. 33 of his videos are over 100 million views. On average each new video he puts out gets at least 30 million views. He spends about 3 million per video, the equivalent of a low-budget Hollywood movie. According to MrBeast, his videos that flop only gets about 10- 20 million views!? Ratings that traditional media outlets can only wish they had.

Beast Philanthropy

Giving away to the less fortunate inspired MrBeast to start his own channel Beast Philanthropy. His philanthropy mission; “to make the world a better place before I die.”

MrBeast is one of the most generous creators who has a new definition of giving back to the community. Even when he had nothing he would donate thousands to a homeless man on the street and a bunch of pizza delivery guys. One of his first large donations was when he got 10 grand from his first sponsor. At first, they were only going to give him 5 grand, but MrBeast convinced them to double so he can give it all to a homeless person. They didn’t believe him like most people. But showed them wrong by doing something never done before by another YouTube on such a large scale.

His side Beast Philantrophy channel is primarily focused on helping communities get the necessities they need for life. They go around to food shelters and give food, clothing, and donations. MrBeast also helps support hurricane survivors and other natural disaster victims.

#TeamSeas

His Team Trees campaign raised over 20 million dollars and planted 20 million trees. After that, he decided it wasn’t enough and started the Team Seas fundraiser where every dollar gets a pound of trash out of the ocean. He quickly reached his goal of 30 million by gaining support from those in the media and appearing on late-night talk show with Jimmy Kimmel

In conclusion, just because it’s never been done before doesn’t mean it can’t. Just because nobody else sees it doesn’t mean it won’t work. You are only crazy until you succeed, then you’re a genius… And probably still a bit crazy. But maybe you have to be out of your mind to do something not done before. Living in a time where everyone wants to play it safe can get old pretty quickly. It is only human nature that seeks adventure and ingenuity where ever we may go.
