MrBeast fitness push reveals one key secret to making exercise ‘easy’

YouTube megastar MrBeast is a bit of a hero of mine — even though I don’t even watch his channel.

As I wrote in this piece recently, I have a deep admiration for people who attack their goals with obsessive focus and consistency and eventually reach the pinnacle of their craft.

For basketball, it was Michael Jordan. For football, Tom Brady.

For YouTube, it’s Jimmy Donaldson, a.k.a., MrBeast.

If you don’t know who he is, ask your kids, but long story short, he spent 10 years fixated on mastering YouTube and now regularly gets more than 100 million views per video.

You may not love his work, but you have to respect the hustle.

One of the trade-offs for Donaldson is that, with his laser focus pointed at being the best in the world at YouTube, he let a lot of other activities fall by the wayside.

One of those sacrifices was around fitness.

Not anymore, however.

The quest to get ‘yoked’

Here’s what Donaldson told the Colin and Samir show about sacrificing health for work:

“I was just so laser-focused on the channel, and I just realized one day, I was like ‘I have not been working out or taking care of myself or anything.’”

I’ve experienced this myself in my first year of real entrepreneurship.

In addition to trying to build a business from the ground up, I have a full-time job, a family, and what feels like a million responsibilities.

But sacrificing exercise for these activities is completely counter-productive — it reduces your energy and lowers your mood for literally everything else.

And besides, most people have more time than they think to exercise (i.e. if you have time to watch Netflix, you have time to exercise).

The act of exercising isn’t as difficult as you think, either.

Upon revealing his new quest to get “yoked”, MrBeast revealed one key fitness secret to make exercise easy.

The secret to fitness success

Asked for his advice on how others could achieve the kinds of fitness gains he has, Donaldson revealed a very simple secret but one that nonetheless few put in the time or effort to understand:

“All you have to do is work out for three months really consistently and then it’ll just become part of your lifestyle.

“I couldn’t fathom a year ago ‘how am I ever going to do this religiously,’ because we just have so much stuff going on, but now it’s just truly a habit.”

This is the concept underpinning my all-time favorite self-improvement book of all time and it can be applied to anything.

For example, I wrote here about how treating a writing habit like a gym habit can supercharge your productivity and make getting pen to page easy as pie.

Radical accountability

MrBeast also touched on another tool that can actually help on your quest to get some decent exercise in every day: make yourself accountable to someone else.

There are lots of ways to go about this, like having a running buddy for example.

MrBeast took it a step further, making a brutal bet with one of his YouTube pals:

“Me and Eric, another YouTuber, we signed a contract where we’d work out every day, and if we didn’t, we’d get a tattoo of each other.

“You’re OK to have a day off it’s like an actual part of your program, so I occasionally have rest days, but for the most part, the last 310 days, we’ve worked out every single day, and we’ve held each other accountable, and it’s been awesome.”

Now you don’t need to go to that kind of extreme, but going through a fitness journey with a pal can be fun and motivating.

Consistency is king

Consistency really is the key to everything, though.

People put so much effort into finding “tricks” and “hacks” to do things like build side income or work out, but in the end, at the very base level, it really is as simple as showing up every single day.

Always remember that massive wins don’t just appear out of thin air — they’re the result of many, many small victories collected over long periods of time.
