Summary

Kenna, a movie enthusiast, risks losing her friends due to her habit of talking during movies, a trait she developed from her family's tradition of engaging with films.

Abstract

The narrative "Movie Talker" revolves around Kenna, a young woman whose love for movies is overshadowed by her inability to refrain from commenting throughout the film. Accompanied by her friends, Jessica and Olivia, to a romantic movie, Kenna's continuous chatter about the film's events and actors becomes a source of irritation for her friends. Despite her attempts to minimize her talking, the habit proves too ingrained, leading to a tense moment where her friends threaten to exclude her from future movie outings. We’re sitting in a movie theater with the big screen playing one of those sappy love stories that all the girls love. I’m there with my two best girlfriends sharing a large popcorn and some snacks. The movie is half completed and there he is the hot star of the movie we have been waiting to see for months has taken off his shirt!

Kenna: Oh my gosh, isn’t he so hot?

Jessica: Yes Kenna, he is. She says with an eye roll.

Olivia: Shh

Kenna: Sorry Olly, I was just telling Jess how hot he is.

Jessica: Shh

Olivia: Everybody just be quiet. I am trying to watch the movie.

Have you ever been in this situation? Where someone is at the movies and just cannot stop talking? Well, welcome to my life. It’s not what you’re thinking, I am that person. You think it’s just a pain for you but nope it is also a pain for me! Stop getting upset I can’t help it. I guess I should stop arguing with you and tell you my story.

As you now know my name is Kenna and I love movies of all kinds, horror, comedy, romance, suspense, you name it I like it. Movies have always been a go-to in my family since I was a child. We would laugh, yell, cry, and even talk about what's happening in a movie. Yes, I mean, while it’s happening. So, now you get how I can talk through an entire movie. But of course, my friends are now annoyed with me.

Kenna: That was so embarrassing wasn’t it? How did he fall off the bed like that in the middle of the night? I would be so embarrassed.

Olivia: I swear, if you don’t shut up Kenna, I will never go to the movies with you again.

Kenna: Oh yeah, sorry. I’ll be quiet now.

Jessica: Finally?

The movie is coming to an end and I still have not shut up as Olly put it.

Kenna: Do you think he will make it to the monument in time to ask her to marry him? It will be so cute if he can make it.

Both girls roll their eyes for the gazillionth time during the movie.

Kenna: *Sobbing* I love happy endings! He finally made it in time! He almost missed her. Did you see how she was about to leave?

Olly: I am going to the bathroom.

Kenna: But the credits are on now. We can go once the credits are over.

Olly: I’ll see you outside.

Jessica: I’ll go with Olly. I have to use the bathroom too.

Kenna: But guys, I don’t want to go right now. I like to watch the credits.

Jessica and Olly: You stay then.

Olly: We are just going to the bathroom and will meet you outside.

Kenna: Okay see you soon.

Both girls head off to the bathroom. Kenna stays and watches the credits and then heads off to the bathroom to find the girls.

Olly: Yeah, I really hate going with her. Why do you always invite her?

Jessica: She’s so nice, and I really like her —

Olly: Oh hey, Kenna!

Kenna: Were you guys talking about me?

Jessica and Olly: No!!

Jessica: Of course, not! We love you, Kenna.

Kenna: Don’t lie you guys don’t like going out with me.

Jessica: That’s not true. We just don’t like going to the movies with you.

Kenna: I feel like I’m getting better though! I didn’t talk as much during this movie. Please just give me a few more tries.

Olly: Sorry, I can’t take it. We can hang out anywhere except the movies after today.

And that is how movies brought me close to losing my best friends. Thank you so much, mom and dad and my whole family for always talking through movies! I’ll never be invited to watch a movie ever again.
