Motivation Lies Within!
Relying on others to get yourself motivated? Stop it!

Last night I happened to re-watch 2014 Emmy Awards and something hit me so hard that I couldn’t avoid myself from writing it down.
If you remember, Bryan Cranston won the Emmy for the ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ (Of course for Breaking Bad) and he won the award over Matthew McConaughey, whose performance as Rust Cohle in True Detective was nothing short of perfection.
However, Bryan Cranston’s portrayal of Walter White was too good that it overshadowed all the other nominees and allowed Cranston to pick up his 5th Emmy.
Inspirational? Yeah, for sure as it literally pumped me up and provided me with the kind of motivation that I had been looking for.
Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. It was a momentary feeling that lifted my spirits for the time being until I went to bed and ended up sleeping for the next 10 hours. It was at that moment when I realized how overvalued and overrated the word ‘motivation’ is!
The word ‘motivation’ has been around for a very long time but the way it has been signified in recent times is quite noticeable. Every second person is talking about his lack of motivation but when one sees around, he realizes that there is a lot to witness, hear and read that can literally inspire you to do what you really want to do.
For instance, when I look around I see Casey Neistat, who uploaded a video for five hundred some consecutive days before he acquired the status of the best Vlogger there has ever been.
Isn’t that inspirational? It truly is. I look at Rafael Nadal and come to the realization that he lifted himself from a seven months injury layout, didn’t give up and since then he has managed to win 8 more Grand Slams and several singles titles. Isn’t that something that can drive a person? Well, it truly is stimulating.
Nonetheless, there are a lot of people who have witnessed all this inspirational stuff yet they don’t have the courage to stand up, work hard for their goals, and achieve them. It is mainly because we have over-glorified and misunderstood the true meaning of ‘motivation’.
Motivation is not something that you can take from another person — doesn’t matter how great his story is or how inspirational it may sound; motivation lies within and if a person can’t lift himself then there is nothing that can help him get up and work for his goals.
Moreover, the word motivation is highly overrated because it is not only the motivation but sheer hard work and persistence that actually help you win the ultimate prize.
For instance, if a writer gets inspired by the artistry of a superior writer and relies only on that particular stimulus to ameliorate his writing, he won’t be able to do that. Unless he works on his skills and writes consistently, he won’t get too far.
Over the years I have witnessed a number of inspirational stories, have read, and heard about people who started from nothing yet they ended up with more success and recognition than anyone can even imagine. Thus, I can say one thing with authority that all this motivational stuff may play a little role in giving you a direction but unless you find your inner motivation, unless you ignite the flames within yourself and work hard for what you believe in, you cannot become what you dream of becoming.
To conclude, all these inspirational movies and books — telling the stories of successful athletes, entrepreneurs, and artists — are truly stimulating. No doubt about that. However, every time you fall you can’t just stand up by listening to these stories, you need to pave your own way, you need to get yourself inspired from within and once you have that inner drive, you can conquer both worlds, the one within you and the one you live in.
