As Mother’s Day approaches, I find myself reading more articles than usual about motherhood. My relationship with my mother is complicated, and hearing similar stories helps me feel less alone.

I haven’t heard from my mother in years, but I no longer hate her. I recognize that while she wasn’t the mother I wanted or needed, she likely parented me to the best of her ability. Now that I’m a mom myself, empathy has replaced my anger toward her.

Besides, she doesn’t need my judgment. Society is already hard enough on moms, as referenced in the article below.

Moms are also hard on themselves. The years pass quickly, and we often wish we had done more.

Single moms have additional challenges. I used to constantly compare myself to married mothers when my kids were young, mainly because I was poor.

Luckily, I’ve learned that you can still give your kids a good life despite your financial situation.

Challenges will still arise, though, regardless of your income. It’s hard when others don’t love your children the way you do.

It’s also hard when your mom doesn’t love you the way she should.
