Morning
28 August 2021 Saturday Poetry Prompt: the time you begin

You know it stays morning for most of my shifts these days — blending into a landscape orientation with black uniform black pants –
but I wasn’t on the hunt anyway and didn’t need the camouflage
crumbling full circle while only half turning round and only getting half of a point of view — the collision of dreams with nightmares
I was in pain — I convulse almost by memory stepped up to the restaurant window to pick up what I don’t remember ordering –
it is half a human hand — holding a pencil whose tip has been smashed beyond recognition – only a wooden nail now –
I admit it — I don’t like being alone but how do I get my memory back after turning one name in my mouth over and over –
and the past 24hrs were all a morning blur – ink still drying on my hands.

Prompt:
(Ach! Gods, I published this accidentally a day early!! Mea culpa. Oops. Careful with the scheduling, J.D. …)
Over the years, I have sworn by many different writing “times”, times I artificially/really designated as my most productive. I think there’s an irony in that, and, as time goes by and I am more driven to write than ever, I have slipped into a space where I can draft virtually throughout my day. The last three hours of my day, however, especially as my condition has ordinarily contrived to keep me low on energy, were generally a dry zone. Does time of day matter to you? Can you write all over, or just in certain blocks? Write a piece that begins from the image of what time you set yourself up to write (oh, yes: for me, for the last few years, the morning has been my dedicated writing time. I have recently learnt how to keep it up through the whole day, to make use of what time I can snatch). It doesn’t have to be only about you writing, but use that as your opening idea/image, and continue to amaze us all with your stellar contributions! Tag me in it.
Keep reading Scrittura: there’s some really, really epic work on here these days!
