More Women Than Men Want To Make Abortion Illegal
Before we start pointing fingers, let’s look at the actual data

I recently read an opinion piece from Gabrielle Blair with the salacious title, “100% of Pregnancies Are Caused By Men.” Although she disingenuously chose to write her title in the passive voice, there is nothing passive about this title. Since her article, many other opinion pieces have a “let’s flay the men” tone.
First off, we at Sexography prefer to start with science. Gabrielle Blair claims that “all unwanted pregnancies are caused by the irresponsible ejaculations of men. All of them.”
This dichotomous statement grossly ignores Biology 101.
A woman’s ovaries are not passively waiting for ejaculation to penetrate her egg. The egg uses a chemical signal to select the sperm to produce the healthiest offspring. Once Ms. Egg makes her selection (or no selection if the sperm is deemed inferior), she self-destructs her sperm receptors to make sure no other sperm get in.
In other words, a women’s body chooses pregnancy. Yes, she needs “ejaculation” to be given that choice, but it is still ultimately the egg’s choice.
And even after conception, a women’s body can still reject the pregnancy. Most miscarriages occur due to defects in the fetuses’ chromosomes. Giving men 100% of the credit for conception is like saying a rose needs only the sun to bloom.
Scientific inaccuracies aside, please tell me why women are spitting flames at men. Men are not the problem. A loud minority of men speaking for the entire country is the problem.
A 2021 Gallup poll found that 50% of men and 45% of women think abortion should be “legal under certain circumstances.”
To be clear, abortion “under certain circumstances” includes rape, incest, and ectopic pregnancies where the mother’s life is in danger. I am shocked that more women than men would ever oppose abortion in this situation.
To be fair, the same poll found that 50% of men identify as pro-life, while only 43% of women are pro-life. But a 7% margin gap is not wide enough to blame men for this mess.
Still, plenty of women are blaming men. Some dead inside women have even suggested we stop having sex with men as “punishment.”
Um. Ok, so who exactly is that punishing? Sorry, but I will be having mind-blowing sex with strong, feminist men until they burn all my birth control and lock me in a chastity belt.
Enough. Stop telling women what to do with their bodies. If you want to go all Amazonian, then have at it. But don’t tell women to stop having sex with men as some draconian Lara Croft revenge fantasy.
Women who write this dumpster fire drivel make my ovaries drop to the floor. These women are not feminists. A feminist listens to the experiences of BOTH sides to understand the feelings of powerlessness.
And yes, there are a lot of men who feel powerless right now. For the first time in history, this country has reversed the rights of half the population. Republicans are about to create a government with separate but unequal laws for women.
The majority of men do not want a country that resembles Iraq. A March 2022 Pew Research Center study found fewer than (8%) of Americans believe “abortion should be illegal in every case, without exception.” But here we are with an unpopular decision forced down our throats yet again.
Here’s a better idea. If women want to abstain from sex, stop having sex with far-right, religious Republicans who want to turn women into broodmares. Let’s not throw the baby out with the fanatical bathwater.
Rational men (including many Republicans) know that if women lose their reproductive rights, it will hurt them too. Six in 10 women who have abortions are already mothers. Many of those abortions are among couples who cannot afford to have more children.
Far-right Republicans will dismantle Griswold v Connecticut next, spelling the end of contraception. Anti-abortion religious groups, including Justice Kavanaugh, have already referred to contraception as “abortion-inducing.”
Again, this claim belies the science of contraception. Pregnancy does not begin until a fertilized egg is implanted in the uterus. If we change the definition of conception, we might as well go back 350 years to when doctors believed spermatozoa contained a tiny, miniaturized human — the homunculus.
Plan B is also not killing any miniaturized humans. Plan B works by stopping fertilization…in women. No sperm (or homunculus) are hurt by this contraception method.
But conservatives are not operating in the modern-day world. In the recent draft leak, Alito argued that Roe v Wade is unconstitutional because abortion was never in the constitution.
Do you know what is also not in the constitution? Birth control. You won’t find Abigail Adams telling her hubby John to “remember the ladies” and “make sure you bring home an IUD from Paris. I want to get frisky.”
Men don’t want contraception banned any more than women do. When a condom breaks and couples can’t get Plan B, they won’t have any option but to turn to Jesus. And since most of this country is still secular, our knees are not used to bending.
I won’t cue the campfire jingles just yet, but if we want to keep our reproductive rights, we need to work together. Pitting women against men is only shaking the gender war hornet’s nests. And it is already a monstrous hornet’s nest.
But Republicans want us divided.
Republicans are never divided.
Riddle me this. Why do you think far-right religious conservatives keep goading women. Why do you think Rep. Matt Gaetz threw this ridiculous gasoline Tweet into the fire:

First off, most women are “over-educated” in comparison to men. Women outnumber men in college by four to three. Clearly, this insult is casting a wide net. But Gaetz wants women angry.
Unfocused anger divides people into useless screaming matches.
Jerry Falwell is laughing in his grave. White evangelists held their “purity balls” and hacked away at reproductive rights for half a century. Most people thought they would never get this far, partly because our Justices promised us they would not. A recent YouGov poll conducted before the leak found that only 20% of Americans believed Roe v Wade would be overturned.
To quote my favorite Bushism, ‘Fool me once, shame on…shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.’
I wonder how many of the fooled 80% were in blue states.
Just look at a map. America is the only country where the poorest areas have the most sway over public policy. Maybe that is because red states bring their guns to the knife fight (literally and metaphorically).
I know this piece is going to anger many women. They will accuse me of benevolent sexism or some other dubious virtue signaling. But as it stands now, the majority of Americans don’t like where abortion is headed. Do you know how to alienate half of that majority? Tell them that they are the problem.
Men are not the problem. Emotionally intelligent women and men not working together to stop this madness is the problem.
Don’t let them divide us.
