More Ways to Publish and Make Money

Hub Pages and Many Stories

In the last couple of days, my attention has been drawn to a bunch of very productive people, VPP’s instead of VIP’s. I just made that up. It sounded good to me.

Last month, I determined to increase my readership and, consequently, the money I earned at Medium. To do that, I thought I should begin to publish for already established publications. I have a few favorites I’ve been reading and am now submitting articles to or pieces as I sometimes refer to what I write: Jason Provencio’s Bouncin’ & Behavin’ Blogs, Illumination, and Know Thyself, Heal Thyself

I am on the list of other publications, but these three publications are the ones I’ve been concentrating on lately. What’s interesting is I did see a huge uptick in my followers, my earnings, and general interest in the articles I’ve been writing. These pieces have to do with the writing process, with things I’ve found useful for keeping myself in a good mood, things that tickle my funny bone, and discovering more about the things that can send me to that dark corner.

I like to write about spiritual development, life lessons, and what it’s like to be a psychic. I also like to get my guide, Seth, on board to write about whatever he’d like to add. With the advent of old age upon me, I will write about the things that are sagging, getting hairier, stiffening joints, and the odd digestive complaint.

I discovered HubPages.com the other day. It was via a lady who is also a member here at Medium. Her name here on Medium is Abena. She goes by the name of Abena Talks. She’s also got a great YouTube channel by the same name. I discovered her via the assorted videos YouTube throws at you, thinking you might like them.

I settled in and got enthused. I signed up for HubPages and will know in the next week or so if I’ve been accepted. Actually, while writing this piece, I looked again at HubPages, and it looks like I’ve been accepted. It took a day for the approval process. So, that’s good news.

HubPages will be a bit different than the writing I do here at Medium. One thing I learned from Abena is that HubPages likes pictures. Without pictures, you’ve evidently got an ice cube’s chance in hell to be monetized. Another thing is somehow, they are connected with Amazon. I’ll have to see if that even flies.

I seem to remember being deleted or banned from the Amazon affiliates program years and years ago. I used to run Google Adsense adverts on all my websites. I realized that I didn’t want folks flying off into the land of shoes or plumbing supplies when I really wanted them to stay with me on the sites, reading my stories or even buying my books.

Ah, well, I should have watched more of her video. Turns out you do not need to be an Amazon affiliate to earn money from articles you publish on HubPages. So, it took about half an hour, and I am now an Amazon Affiliate where I can run ads on my TalkingtoSpirit website and my author’s website, PaulineEvanosky.com, whenever I get that up and running.

The actual writing of the articles is using something called capsules. You begin with your title, select whatever category is appropriate, poke in a picture, start your next capsule with a heading, and text, and begin a new capsule for the next part of the article. So, if you’ve prepared your article outside of HubPages, you end up doing a lot of cutting and pasting.

Abena uses a program called Notions, which looks interesting. I’ll have to learn how to use it. It could be fun. There’s a planner in it, too. Fun. In the meantime, I could also just stick with Word, which is what I use for my Medium articles.

So, HubPages wants articles that are at least 700 to 1,250 words long with at least three pictures with credits, just like we do here at Medium. Unsplash and Pexels work fine. While I’m writing this piece, I’m also watching the second video Abena published on YouTube on exactly what needs to happen to write and submit an article for HubPages.

How you get paid on HubPages is with the advertisements that we don’t have here on Medium sprinkled throughout your article. I’ll have to see how that works out because I have yet to submit an article to HubPages.

It sounds like I’m multitasking today. Watching the videos, trying them out on the HubPages website, and writing an article here at Medium to describe the process…all at the same time.

This morning, I learned about another way to get the word out about my stories on Medium. It’s a place called ManyStories.com. It was a little awkward signing up, but that could just be my browser, which is starting to act goofy, or my own lack of digital knowledge.

No, I don’t know how to answer my cell phone without looking like I’m slapping it around. Anyway, I think it’s going to be a little bit before I can get on a waitlist. Supposedly, spreading the word, reading other’s stories they are writing, commenting, and stuff like that will buy me Karma and help me climb to the top of the waiting list.

Let me know if you’ve tried out HubPages or ManyStories and what your impressions are. I’m interested. Thanks for reading. Clap, Comment, Follow, and Subscribe for free.
