More Than Words
To grow and bloom

This past year my word for the year was grow. In some ways, I did just that.
I started writing on Medium back in July and I just wrote my 100th story (actually, it was a poem) three stories ago.
You can read that poem here:
Other writing included Six-Word Memoirs. I found these gems through Diana C. and quickly became addicted to coming up with a story in six words. They’re lots of fun.
This year, I’ll continue to write on Medium and outside of it as well, with the focus on print publications.
This brings me to my word for this year. I had three words chasing themselves around in my head for the past few weeks. I finally decided on focus.
Writing has to take center stage if I hope to continue to grow and bloom in the way that brings me the most joy. That won’t happen unless I focus.
To help with that, I was looking for a planner at a local bookstore the other day and found the one in the featured photo. It has a page of stickers, a vision board page, daily, weekly, and monthly calendar pages, and pages for self-reflection. I love the bright, cheerful illustrations within the pages. Perfect for keeping track of the writing and personal goals.
Besides joining Medium and finding a warm, welcoming community of readers and writers, here are some other things I did this past year:
Learned French Practiced French poetic forms Read 33/25 books
Some things I want to do in 2022:
Learn Danish Listen to more music (with a focus on varied genres) Learn calligraphy Read 35 books (again with a focus on varied genres) Do more paint pours on canvas and vases Set up a fairy garden Get some roller skates and go skating again Work on MG mystery (focus on dedicated writing time)
Resolutions never work for me. Especially of the ‘lose weight, exercise, and eat healthier’ variety, so I don’t even bother with those. Having a word to guide me throughout the year, however, does work. And I plan to use my word for all areas of my life, creative and otherwise. Focusing on better choices, in general, makes me feel hopeful for the new year.
Thank you to Trista Signe Ainsworth for her ever-inspiring Thank you Notes publication and her lovely post on choosing her words for the year. Happy New Year!
