Summary

The website content introduces "Labors of love" as the monthly writing theme for May 2023, celebrating motherly figures and encouraging writers to create works centered around this theme, using provided Writing Sparks and weekly prompts.

Abstract

For the month of May 2023, the website "Promptly Written" has announced a new monthly theme titled "Labors of love." This theme is chosen to honor and celebrate all women who exhibit motherly love and care, not limited to biological mothers but extending to any woman who nurtures others, including pets and other creatures. The celebration aligns with the Mother's Day observance, particularly highlighting the second Sunday in May in the US. Writers are invited to engage with this theme by crafting poems, fiction, essays, or articles that relate to "Labors of love," and to tag their work with 'Monthly Theme' for better visibility. The website provides Writing Sparks to inspire specific pieces, including writing tributes to nurturing figures, exploring personal labors of love, and contemplating the creative process as an act of love. The editor-in-chief, Ravyne Hawke, encourages writers to embrace the prompts at their own pace without stress, ensuring the prompts remain available for inspiration.

  • Writers are encouraged to use the theme and provided Writing Sparks to explore personal experiences and tributes, fostering a community of shared stories and reflections on the concept of love as labor.
  • The editor-in-chief conveys a supportive and inclusive approach, reminding writers that the prompts are meant to inspire and should not cause stress or be a source of pressure.

Welcome to Promptly Written for a new monthly theme. This month, the theme will be:

Labors of love

While mothers are celebrated in different months worldwide, most countries celebrate mothers in May. In the US, that celebration is on the second Sunday of May. However, Mothers should be celebrated all year. And I do not mean just mothers who bear children. Any woman who shows love and care to others — humans and other creatures — should be celebrated. This month, we will celebrate all motherly women and their labors of love.

How To Use Monthly Themes

  1. Write specific poems, fiction, essays, or articles related to the theme — try using the Writing Sparks.
  2. Choose a Weekly prompt or select a Writing Spark, and center your piece around the theme.
  3. Remember to tag your work appropriately and also use ‘Monthly Theme’ as one of your tags if your work is centered around the theme.

Writing Sparks

  1. For those who have fond memories of your mothers, write a tribute to the woman who nurtured you.
  2. If you do not have fond memories of your mother, write a tribute to the woman (or man — because men can be nurturing too) who, as a substitute, nurtured you.
  3. What labors of love do you share with your children, pets, or both?
  4. What ideas are you birthing at this moment? Are they labors of love toward others? Or toward yourself?

Bonus Prompt — Consider the following quote:

“In a child’s eyes, a mother is a goddess. She can be glorious or terrible, benevolent or filled with wrath, but she commands love either way. I am convinced that this is the greatest power in the universe.” ― N.K. Jemisin, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

I hope you all have a fabulous May!

Please, do not stress yourselves out by attempting to keep up with the writing prompts here at PW. They will be available whenever the inspiration strikes!
