Welcome to Promptly Written for a new monthly theme. This month, the theme will be:

Springing into action

I don’t know about you, but I am definitely ready for Spring! This winter has been brutal in so many ways, but especially because of the weird weather. Don’t get me wrong, I love winter — the cold, the snow, the snuggling under blankets — but this winter has been everything but those things. The weather has been all over the place and it has put me in a sour mood. So I have high hopes that Spring will be more stable.

When I think of Spring, it harkens me back to my childhood. This was always a season of doingness. The windows and doors would be wide open and deep cleaning would commence. Dad would be actively prepping the garden. And we kids would be spending more time outdoors. Our lives centered around activities from finishing school for the year to getting the home ready for a busy summer of canning season. These days, I am less physically active, but my mind is always a~buzz with activities during Spring — writing and art, specifically. And I wanted our theme for this month to reflect that. So let’s spring into action and see what the month holds for us, shall we?

How To Use Monthly Themes

  1. Write specific poems, fiction, essays, or articles related to the theme — try using the Writing Sparks.
  2. Choose a Weekly prompt or select a Writing Spark, and center your piece around the theme.
  3. Remember to tag your work appropriately and also use ‘Monthly Theme’ as one of your tags if your work is centered around the theme.

Writing Sparks

  1. Write a Spring-themed Haiku (you can use the traditional Haiku form of 5/7/5 or the American Haiku form — also called a Lune) or a Tanka.
  2. What emotions does the word ‘Spring’ evoke in you?
  3. After a Winter’s slumber, how do you ‘spring into action’?
  4. Write a poem, piece of fiction, or an essay using this as a ‘springboard’ There’s something (choose your adjective) in the air on this warm Spring morning.

Bonus Prompt: Consider the following quote. Write whatever comes to mind — poem, piece of fiction, shortform, or essay.

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.” ― Pablo Neruda

I hope you all have a fabulous March! May Spring bring a season of renewal into your lives!

Please, do not stress yourselves out by attempting to keep up with the writing prompts here at PW. They will be available whenever the inspiration strikes!

Poor print quality in KDP children’s books…

…because KDP was not meant to be used for picture books.
