Monthly Theme For June 2023
Hibernation or Vacation

Welcome to Promptly Written for a new monthly theme. This month, the theme will be:
Hibernation or Vacation
Whether you live in the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern Hemisphere, June marks the month for drastic changes — too much heat or too little, too much watery weather or draughts. This often leads us to decide — Do we hunker down in hibernation, or do we make the most of it and take a vacation? This month we will explore this either/or theme. Feel free to interpret the Sparks however your muses entice you.
How To Use Monthly Themes
- Write specific poems, fiction, essays, or articles related to the theme — try using the Writing Sparks.
- Choose a Weekly prompt or select a Writing Spark, and center your piece around the theme.
- Remember to tag your work appropriately (Poetry, Fiction, Essay, or Articles) and use ‘Monthly Theme’ if your work is centered around the theme.
Writing Sparks
- How do you feel about the changes that come with the month of June? Do they invigorate you or shut you down?
- Whether it is Summer or Winter in your hemisphere, do you look forward to vacations? What does a Summer or Winter vacation consist of for you?
- How do you hibernate from the extreme weather changes in June?
- Consider this: In 1785, Robert Burns wrote: “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” As you decide on June plans, does this quote still hold true today as it did back in Burns’ day? How can or do you make successful plans?
Bonus Prompt — Consider the following quotes:
“When people went on vacation, they shed their home skins, thought they could be a new person.” ― Aimee Friedman, Sea Change
“If he could sleep, she thought, sleep through the unhappy months, the heart’s hunger, the months of death and cold and not having what you most want, and wake with time gone past and blurred and a new year coming. But perhaps it is too early in the year, she thought after that, and besides, he is not a bear.” ― Naomi Mitchison, Travel Light
I hope you all have a fabulous June!
