The Fight for Your Life

Welcome to your favourite home of all things promptilicious. While the wonderful Ravyne Hawke is taking a summer break I will be serving as your lead editor and providing you the theme for this month, which will be:

The Fight for Your Life

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you read those words? Do you feel like you are in a fight right now, or does it make you wonder when you gave up and stopped fighting?

We all aim to take responsibility for this ‘one wild and precious life’ that we have, but all too easily daily life, the mundane and all the ‘shoulds’ take over and we get pulled off the path to our dreams and ambitions, and find ourselves a little lost in the wilderness.

Often other people hold ideas and images of us and how our lives are supposed to look. Those ideas can feel like cages, or they can help us to believe in ourselves during moments of doubt. Which are you surrounded by this month?

How To Use Monthly Themes

1. Write specific poems, fiction, essays, or articles related to the theme — try using the Writing Sparks.

2. Choose a Weekly prompt or select a Writing Spark, and center your piece around the theme.

3. Remember to tag your work appropriately (Poetry, Fiction, Essay, or Articles) and use ‘Monthly Theme’ if your work is centered around the theme.

Writing Sparks

1. Are you fighting for yourself or are you too busy fighting on behalf of others?

2. Do you feel like you have people in your corner helping you along the road to victory?

3. Does the word ‘fight’ make you feel uncomfortable with confrontation something you usually avoid? If so, what does that mean for your dreams and ambitions?

4. Does the theme make you think of a physical challenge you have or are facing? Does it bring to mind a loved one who you wish would fight harder?

Bonus Prompt — Consider the following quotes:

If you knew you had to fight for your life tomorrow, would you change your training today? — Bruce Lee

A dream you don’t have to fight for isn’t a dream — it’s a nap. One changes your afternoon. The other changes your world. Keep fighting.― Jon Acuff

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody but yourself means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.”— E.E. Cummings

Have a creative month, I can’t wait to see your responses!
