Monthly Theme For April
Sowing Seeds
For the month of April, the theme here at Promptly Written will be
Sowing Seeds
Can you believe it is April already? We had an extended Winter here in Oklahoma, and I know many in parts of the US and Europe did as well. However, Spring has finally arrived! For most of us, this means it is time to plant gardens — vegetables, fruits, and flowers. It is also a time for renewal, growth, and lots of rain and sunshine so life around us can grow.
My hopes is that with the Monthly Theme and the Writing Sparks, you will embrace all things Spring. Let’s cast some seeds, shall we?
How To Use Monthly Themes
- Write specific poems, fiction, essays, or articles related to the theme — try using the Writing Sparks.
- Choose a Daily or Weekly prompt, or select a Writing Spark, and center your piece around the theme.
- Remember to tag your work appropriately and use ‘Monthly Theme’ as one of your tags if your work is centered around the theme.
Writing Sparks
- This month, let’s cast our seeds wildly afield! Choose a writer (here on PW or in another publication) whose work you admire. Write an essay on why you admire them and then list links to 2–3 of your favorite pieces of their work. Remember to mention (@Medium ID name) them so they can come read what you’ve written about them and their work. You may submit as many of these during April as you’d like on different writers. Please remember to use the ‘Essay’ tag. I will be gathering them into a Feature page for the entire month of April.
- Write a poem or essay on — What kind of garden do you wish to plant this season? This can be literal or figurative.
- Write a poem, piece of fiction, or essay on the theme — Bad Seed(s)
- Write a poem or essay on the theme — Cultivating relationships
Have a great April everyone! Take the time to cast some seeds and cultivate some relationships this month. And please, do not stress yourselves out by attempting to keep up with the writing prompts here at PW. They will be available whenever the inspiration strikes!
