Commentary: ChatGPT understands languages other than English. Here I have used Sanskrit to instruct the robot to tell a simple story. The robot didn’t quite retell the whole Rāmāyana but it provided a short story and some useful conclusions.
My conclusion is that you don’t have to be an English speaker to use these programs. If you are more comfortable in another language, then use that to guide the AI and translate the result.
Machine translations are not perfect but I find that by swapping back and forth in Google Translate I can identify and correct any problems.
