Monkey in Mind- Chapter 2
Titans Gold
The tale of my evolution is a long one. One of which I am not very proud about. I was the odd one when I was born, as I had a mix of the brown and black coloured coat. I looked very different from my other brothers and sisters. My mother was always protective over me as the other monkeys and chimps in our group tried to tease me and hurt me.
I knew I was different as I was taunted by my sisters and brothers as well. My father tolerated my presence in their lives. After my mother died, I felt even lonelier.
I enjoyed spending time with my mother who would speak to me a lot and always tell me to observe and learn the actions and the reactions of the other primates in our neighbourhood. She would always tell me that I could learn a lot by observing all the other animals in the forests of Xīnshén, than I could ever learn listening to any of the other animals. This was good counsel from my Mother, who was killed by poachers when I was just a teenager.
I observed the actions of my father as he hunted and protected our family. I observed the actions of my brothers and their friends as they copied the adults in our group and tried to get control over the forest, as they grew older.
Mother had told me that I needed to be patient, as she knew that my weakness was my lack of patience.
She had told me to be patient and to wait for my time to come. She always believed that I had a big role to play in this forest and in the forests of the universe.
She was right.
Mother had also prepared me for the reality of death.
She did say that we would all die someday and enter the celestial forests of the mind.
If we could survive death today, we could be slain by death tomorrow or at some time in the future.
Once dead we would all be together again in the forests of the universe, where death could not touch us.
All animals of the forests would be free to do all that pleased them like lounging on a tree for a whole day watching life go by or looking at the vastness and the expanse of the universal forest which had no beginning and no end.
A monkey sits on a tree in the park facing a large business complex, called “Titans Gold”, with all the successful corporate firms of the city. The monkey keeps looking curiously at all the people entering and leaving the building.
“Jim, how long will it take me to reach my work today,” says the distinguished-looking businessman sitting at the back of the limousine.
The driver Jim turns around and says, “Sir, we will arrive in about ten minutes. I’m so sorry about all the traffic, perhaps if I had tried a short cut, we would have reached earlier.”
“Make sure that this does not happen again. You need to check out our route so that I can reach my destination on time,” said Sam Hardless sternly, “and remember we will be going home and to the airport today.”
“Yes, Sir, it will not happen again and I will be ready to take you home and to the airport as soon as you are ready.”
Sam Hardless is a no-nonsense man and he has a right to be, he is a billionaire, as wealthy as Midas with the world at his feet. He rushes into a big business meeting. Everyone gathers around as he speaks to them about his latest project.
The monkey watches one man in particular. He watches Sam Hardless enter the building, as he steps out of his limousine. The monkey enters the building through an open window in the gentlemen’s loo. The monkey arrives at the office of Sam Hardless. He creeps into the office and hides behind the potted plants.
“The Hardless Entertainment Centre needs to be bigger and better than what Disney offers the world. We need to have more rides, more adventures and more thrilling experiences to offer children and their families,” said Sam.
The large screen behind him comes on and the video presentation begins as the members of his organization sit around shrouded in the darkness.
As the images, colours and sounds come alive on screen we hear Sam Hardless droning about his latest and biggest project ever.
The monkey crawls out from behind the potted plants and places a tiny yellow plastic arrow in the coat pocket of Sam Hardless as he sits and makes his presentation in the darkroom.
The monkey crawls out of the window before the lights come on in the room.
As the presentation ends, the lights in the large Board room come on and there is a round of applause from all those gathered around.
