How Monk Mode is Changing My Life

It was around early 2023 when I came across the concept of Monk Mode.
I honestly don’t exactly remember where I found it first but I probably learned it directly from Iman Gadzhi who I believe is the creator of this idea, or at least the version of it that is popular now.
I tried to do it in 2023, however it was a very tumultuous year personally, so I never did it properly. That’s why in late 2023 when I started to plan for 2024 with the help of the 12-week system I decided that in Q1 (January, February, and March) I would do Monk Mode.
I talked more about this here:
Despite loving and using the Monk Mode system now, I don’t believe you need to disappear for 6 months, never talk to your friends again, take ice baths, and pretty much just work without even blinking. If that’s what you are going for, hey more power to you.
But monk mode doesn’t have to be like that.
Monk mode — inspired by the disciplined lifestyle of monks — refers to intense periods of uninterrupted focus to optimize productivity. It involves hyperfocusing on a single task and removing all distractions. (Via Forbes)
So essentially, anything you want to focus on during a certain period of time can be done through the Monk Mode system.
Whatever it is you are trying to achieve with monk mode, you need to have rules. Rules that you are going to commit yourself to during the time. Here are some of the rules I set for myself at the beginning of the year:
- Sleeping at 22hrs (during weekdays)
- Daily movement (running, pilates, walking…)
- Working on my French practice every day.
The thing is that there are a lot of rules you can set for yourself, because we all want to achieve a lot, but set a limit to the amount of rules you’ll have. I personally recommend no more than 6.
Those rules don’t mean that you won’t be able to do any other good habit or action following your goals.
The main purpose of the rules is to help you focus on what’s indispensable to your success.
These are some reasons why Monk Mode has been improving my life:
The progress I made is helping me improve my mental health significantly.
Not all goals need to be about hustling and pushing yourself. Some can also be about healing and honestly, it's all connected. If you feel better, you work better, if your environment is good, you feel better…
So many of the things I’ve been doing in my personal version of Monk Mode have been helping me mentally, that’s why I prioritize it.
I’ve made more progress on my goals than ever before.
Monk Mode is one of the tools that has helped me be more proactive about my goals. I’ve always liked to be organized. But like many, I struggled to later take the actions. I'm not gonna lie, it hasn’t been easy to build my life and routine around my goals.
But now I can see how it’s been so worth it and how the Monk Mode mentality has been crucial to this.
I cut off my biggest distractions.
This one has been such a blessing. I didn’t know I had a net of things that were systemically distracting me from my goals until I decided to remove them. It was mainly certain parts of social media, people, and physical and mental clutter. Now, it’s much easier to check off all my tasks and to be aware of what I need to do and change every day.
I got more into this topic here:
Remember there are so many things you can plan and organize in order to try to achieve your dream life. But you need to find what's going to help you to take action!
Thank you so much for reading till here.
