What Is Monk Mode?

Monk mode is a technique that helps boost productivity among people who tend to procrastinate on their work due to distractions or temptations. It also helps them stay on track to achieving their goals.

Achieving your goals is a combination of time management and motivation. You need to have a goal but you also have to have the drive to keep going toward them even when you’re tired, burned out, or mentally exhausted. It’s not easy — trust me I’ve been doing it for years now.

Monk mode is about being focused on your work so much so that you can forget about distractions. And to do this you have to go all in and take away any possible pull from outside temptations so that you can get enough work done every day without burning out, getting distracted, or losing motivation. In a sense, it’s like putting your life on lockdown for a month.

Here are the main points of monk mode :

No social media. No television. No movies. No wasting time on small distractions.

No going out after work to have a beer with your friends or going to the bar for happy hour. You need to stay focused on your goals.

No reading news or blogs. Again, unless it’s work-related. Reading books that will improve your life is good in monk mode. If you read only 10 pages a day for a month, you will finish a 300-page book.

No going out with friends on weeknights or weekends either. You have to get your work done and stay focused on the long-term goals you want to achieve in life.

We get overwhelmed by the prospect of doing something for a lifetime and give up too soon.

It’s human nature. But we can do better.

And monk mode can help you do that.

Monk mode is all about removing distractions and temptations from your life in order to give you a focused period in which to complete a task.

It is inspired by the Buddhist monks who went to the mountains to meditate in complete isolation away from society.

It is done for a set time period, usually 30 days. When you launch yourself into monk mode, you remove all the distractions from your life. You don’t have to learn a language in just 30 days, but you will have a very productive month.

It takes 28 days to form a habit

It may seem hard at first to do something consistently for almost a full month. But this habit you create will maybe last you a lifetime.

Think of monk mode as a shortcut to building the best habits while making them stick.
