Monk
A haunted poem of spiritual loss

A hollow monk roams That one time abbey, now bare Like his empty hood,
Where fresh youth once smiled With love for a local lass, Whose heart smiled also,
Till religious spite Split these sadly destined pair, This habit now spectral.
This multi-stanza haiku was partly inspired by my art above (from last October), but also by some folklore I once read; of a faceless monk haunting a ruined abbey. The sad spirit forever mourns a girl he once loved, but lost, due to objections from both his order, and the local community. Thanks for reading.
