Threat to Democracy: Canada’s Faux Trucker Protests Turn Violent
In the wake of weapons being found at the Coutts, Alberta barricades, Canada’s Parliament will invoke the Emergency Measures Act. The Prime Minister is speaking as I write.

This morning the RCMP and Premier of Alberta announced that eleven arrests were made last night and a major cache of weapons was confiscated from the protesters near the Coutts, Alberta border crossing. A police vehicle was rammed. The protests continue in Ottawa, but some trucks are voluntarily moving away from residential neighbourhoods. I will provide more details in a follow-up post.
Counter protests have popped up in multiple cities. More details to come.
The majority of Canadians support opening up of some Covid-19 restrictions. Many are critical of the Prime Minister and his minority government. We don’t think of Justin Trudeau as a celebrity here. However, Canadians in all major parties, including most truckers, oppose the illegal barricades.
The bizarre alliance between the protest organizers and some faith leaders continues. Some followers are completely indoctrinated into believing they are doing God’s work to save Canada from evil. They think Jericho walks around Parliament Hill and blaring truck horns will bring down Justin Trudeau’s government. I am working on a follow-up article about the role of some radicalized churches in this protest, but that will take another day or two.
Police cleared the barricades at Windsor. The bridge between Windsor, Ontario, Canada and Detroit, Michigan, USA is now open.
This is not a peaceful protest. Foreign money to fund this disruption to our economy and democracy is not welcome.
Note: This is a brief update. The situation is fluid. I will update you again soon. I am also working on an in-depth follow-up to Faustian Deals, Faith, and Canada’s Truckers’ Convoys.
