Breaking News

Our Monday Mash-Ups will henceforth be published bi-weekly. That’s right, we’re reducing output to twice a month!

Why?

Because you shouldn’t try to cram so much AWESOME into one week!

But what about my high score?

Scores are not being reset, and we’re working on some extra bonus constraints to tickle those completionist nerves of yours!

This will also give everyone more time to write their stories, and more time to read them!

Monday Mash-Up Leaderboard (Culmination of Mash-Ups 7–8)

1st place: Sweet Chaos, and JF Danskin, Rayne Sanning, and P. L. Goaway with 18 points

2nd place: Ben Ulansey, Sonja Glucksberg, and Kathy K tied with 9 points

3rd place: Kirsty Mackay with 8 points

So without further ado, your two prompts are:

Prompt #1: (2 Points)

“I’ve never trusted ___ and I never will. I can never forgive them for ___!”

Prompt #2: (2 Points)

“Snakes? Why did it have to be snakes?!”

Do those sound familiar? I hope not, because I totally came up with them myself, and are certainly not borrowed from two of my favorite films!

Constraints: (Worth 1 bonus point each)

  • a mirage
  • a fantastic flying creature (author’s choice)
  • a puddle gets someone all wet
  • someone tries to start a fight with “I know you are but what am I?”

Hardcore Constraint: (Worth 2 bonus points)

  • a character orders a pizza without using the word “pizza”

Literary Device: (Worth a MEGA 5 bonus points!)

Rules:

  1. Write a story based on one of the two main prompts.
  2. Include as many of the constraints in your story as possible.
  3. Keep your story between 100–1000 words.
  4. Use the tag “Mashups” if you like.
  5. Tag me @ Sawyer . Jon (no spaces) Jonathon Sawyer so that I can read it and credit you for points in the next Mash-Up, please!
  6. Challenge your fellow writers.
  7. Publish where ever you want but consider The Kraken Lore.
  8. Add a section that tallies up your points at the end of your story. You can look here for an example. (Worth 1 BONUS point)

This Mash-Up could net you an UNPRECEDENTED 14 Points!

May the points be ever in your favor! (Also a totally original line)

Please consider following my Medium account and subscribing to my email list to stay up-to-date. I also encourage comments as I want to hear what you think! Thanks!
