Monday Mash-Up #4
Story writing prompts to spark your creativity with a challenge

It’s everybody’s least favorite day made slightly better. The Monday Mash-Up is back in town to see if you have what it takes. If you’d like to see all the responses to the challenge I’ve compiled them in a fun-to-read list.
If you’ve missed a Monday Mash-Up and would like to still submit an entry I’ve put together a list of all the Mash-Up challenges here.
I’ve decided to give everyone a fair shot for the crown, the point totals will reset with the start of each month.
Monday Mash-Up Leaderboard (Culmination of Mash-Up #3)
1st place: JF Danskin, Zane Dickens, Kathy K, Sweet Chaos, and CK Green tied with 8 points
2nd place: Ben Ulansey with 4 points
3rd place: Jim McDonald with 2 points
This week’s main theme is: (Worth 2 points, pick one)
You move into a new town/village. The welcoming committee is friendly, but they leave you with a warning: don’t look for the voice. Under no circumstances should you look for the voice.
Or
A wandering merchant is trying to hide from a ghost who wants revenge. The ghost, only seen by the merchant, does everything he/she/it can to ruin any sales the merchant might make.
In addition to the main writing prompt, I encourage you to include as many constraints as possible. Each one is worth an additional point!
How many points can you make your story worth?
Constraints: (Worth 1 point each)
- Something catches fire
- A black rose
- Someone acts like a “Karen”
- A white gown/dress covered with blood
Hardcore Constraint: (Worth 2 points)
- Include a phrase that is a palindrome
Rules:
- Write a story based on one of the main prompts.
- Include as many of the constraints in your story as possible.
- Keep your story between 100–1000 words.
- Use the tag “Mashups” if you like.
- Tag me so that I can read it and credit you for points in the next Mash-Up, please!
- Challenge your fellow writers.
- Publish where ever you want but consider The Kraken Lore.
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. I pick Sieran Lane to step up to the challenge.
