Happy Monday, Kraken Crew! Can you believe it’s already been 2 weeks since the last Mash-Up?! I feel like someone’s birthday cake exploded all over my kitchen, and now I’m stuck cleaning it up.
But it’s my kitchen, right? And the icing looks so good… *LICK*

Without further ado, the prompts!
Prompt #1 (2 points):
Well-meaning children try to surprise a guardian for their birthday
Is it an exploding cake? A breakfast-in-bed disaster?
Prompt #2 (2 points):
A documentary filmmaker follows a bizarre wolfpack in their native habitat
Are all the wolves Game of Thrones characters? Do they make peculiar animal noises? Do they eat dinner with forks and knives?
Constraints: (Worth 1 bonus point each)
- Blurry vision
- An apple
- An old copy of the New York Times
- Stonehenge
Hardcore Constraint: (Worth 2 bonus points)
- An unlikely thing explodes!
Literary Device: (Worth a MEGA 5 bonus points!)
- Declare an Archetype within your story, then break it! (Ex: A knight in shining armor is found to be a rude slob!)
Rules:
- Write a story based on one of the two main prompts.
- Include as many of the constraints in your story as possible.
- Use the tag “Mashups”. This is the easiest way for our editors to find you to score your submission!
- Keep your story between 100–1000 words.
- Tag me @ Sawyer . Jon (no spaces) Jonathon Sawyer so that I can read it and credit you for points in the next Mash-Up, please!
- Challenge your fellow writers. I challenge Jim McDonald and Sonja Glucksberg to get a head start on the new Leaderboard!
- Publish where ever you want but consider The Kraken Lore.
