Monday Mash-Up #11

Story writing prompts to spark your creativity with a challenge

Image created by Author using Nightcafé AI

Happy Monday, Kraken Crew! Welcome back to our bi-monthly writing challenge. We’ve read some FANTASTIC stories about Pomeranians and pigeons, but it’s time to say chow-chow to our furry and feathered friends because — we’re going on another adventure!

Tally of the points earned thus far: (Mash-Ups #7–10)

Points! Points for everybody! Just a note: I will no longer go back and tally your points retroactively. You’ve got 2 weeks. If you’re not in by the deadline, I gotta be that mean teacher who gives you a zero!

Also, this will be the final Mash-up for this tally. Points will be reset to give everyone a chance at greatness (Yes, making the Mash-Up Leaderboard is all that is great and noble in this world!)

Now, I’m going to wait right here while you catch up on the entries you might have missed (it *has* been two whole weeks…).

All caught up? Great! Let’s dive into our next section — the PROMPTS!

Prompt #1 (2 points):

A fey creature is going door-to-door selling “magic brownies.”

UberEats meets Girl Guides? Those hooligan fey creatures and their aggressive sales tactics!

Prompt #2 (2 points):

A wizard wakes up from a terrible hangover with no memory of the night before…

Does the wizard find out about his night of drunken revelry? Does he make amends?

Constraints: (Worth 1 bonus point each)

  • A makeshift thrown weapon (a brick, a Molotov Cocktail, a shoe)
  • Somebody says “Pew! Pew!” while using ‘finger guns’
  • The Bermuda Triangle
  • A bird of prey (real or not; no bonus points for using Canada Goose here!)

Hardcore Constraint: (Worth 2 bonus points)

  • A character makes something seem to disappear

Literary Device: (Worth a MEGA 5 bonus points!)

Rules:

  1. Write a story based on one of the two main prompts.
  2. Include as many of the constraints in your story as possible.
  3. Use the tag “Mashups”. This is the easiest way for our editors to find you to score your submission!
  4. Keep your story between 100–1000 words.
  5. Tag me @ Sawyer . Jon (no spaces) Jonathon Sawyer so that I can read it and credit you for points in the next Mash-Up, please!
  6. Challenge your fellow writers.
  7. Publish where ever you want but consider The Kraken Lore.
  8. Add a section that tallies up your points at the end of your story using CTRL+ALT+6 or hit the ` key 3 times (```) on a new line. You can look here for instructions. (Worth 1 BONUS point)
